Just for info you blokes with 16vs can fit the common as poo aletrnator setup used on all Mk3s in Oz, just with the different w/p pulley and a shorter ribbed bely.
    It will clear the manifolds.

Its only TDIs that NEED the bracket of which we are speaking.
Off a T4 is the only place you are gonna get one Mollins.

I have heaps of the 8v type brackets.
I`ll take a pic of one on a 16v engine on Monday.
I`d probably want $50 for the Mount and $100 for the 90amp ribbed alternators. call it $180 and i`ll give you the bottom puley for the crank too. Then you just need a waterpump pulley and a belt.
I have this setup in the Caddy (A1 Chassis) and it rocks.

                Found the pulleys on Germanautoparts.com.

Shop over 10,000 VW & Audi parts in stock for same-day shipment. Use our extensive online catalog to find the OEM and Genuine parts you need fast.

A bit cheaper than the BB ones too.

I wonder if the offset is the same?

I had to get my manifold modded on the ITBd ABF to clear the alternator and later replaced it with a fcatory non-A/C setup, so no, most manifolds don't have enough upward rake to clear the normal Mk3 alt setup.

On the turbo engine, I have the stock setup, deleted a/c and PAS, 6PK1040 belt and VR6 w/p pulley

This isn't ideal in a Mk1, though, as the tensioner arm bolt rubs the chassis rail in most cases, depending on where you locate the engine (as in with the 15mm movement either way from the side engine mounts). I belted in the rail and smoothed it over on mine. Some people get around it by using v-belts, but that's just lame

On a carbed or ITBd engine, you really do need the proper non-A/C setup as it leaves far more space for an airbox or big filters. You also avoid some of the heatsoak from the alternator. This is a VWM Mk3 engine (look at all the space)

This is my engine, where the alternator is smack underneath that heatshield...

                    (thanks dude)

That's what i'm after, Matt. Can you supply that setup? Or is that the one you're talking about? I'm a little confused.

That'll do me! Aslong as my carbs will clear it.

If they go upwards or straight out from the motor, they will fit. If they go down, they may not fit.
