How is the 40th anniversary any different to a normal GTI or the performance pack - surely if you cant drive one of them, you cant drive any of them?

The power to weight is much more in the 40 years.
The normal gti has 163kw which is 122.4kw/t
Gti performance has 169kw which is 123.9kw/t
        40 years has 195kw which is 143.7kw/t

So its over the allowed 130kw/t. But in saying that, the office of road safety pick and choose which care are legal. There are plenty of cars under 130kw/t that they have banned. The new wrx, not much torque and less power to weight than the gti but thays banned. Same as the new 206tsi which is banned.

If the 40 years wasnt registered as a gtin40 years then you would be sweet, but id say it would be in the rms system as a 40 years

Speak to Arthur at Exoticars in Parramatta. He's REALLY good and experienced with VAG cars. He's also a supplier/retailer for GIAC and CTS products. I'm thinking of getting A CTS downpipe and intake there done soon.
