Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

  • VAG Friendly Dyno in Brisbane

I am wanting to take my FWD only VAG (MKV TDI Jetta) for a run on a Dyno before I do my next round of mods.
Can someone please recommend a good Dyno company in Brisbane that is sympathetic to VAG owners who are on the mature side of life (over 50).

I am not interested in getting a tune done, or to have products shoved down my throat, just get a baseline run on the Dyno with no hassles and then repeat the process a bit later when I have had some more work done (aka spent some money).

Also I have read that some Dynos are not suitable for FWD only cars so this needs to be a consideration.

I have also noticed it has been a long time since we had a Dyno Day.

Any good ideas and or constructive comments would be appreciated

    Thanks in advance.

Bayside performance (BPS Autos) at Russell Street Cleveland will do that for you. Not sure what they charge but if you give James or Dave a call they will give you a price. PH 3488 2911

Harding Performance in Cooparoo has a hub dyno which is much more accurate than a rolling dyno and will be able to far better provide you with before and after figures that are not affected by (for example) tyre pressures or strap down tension between runs.

Give them a call to see if they can help.

Leon's would be the one's east likely to try and sell you something.

I don't think Leon's at Coopers Plains is what I'd call a FWD dyno. They are a nice bunch but the dyno seemed to be setup more for RWD air cooled. The car got hot very quickly as they had no fan. If they had one, they certainly didn't use it.

Sorry guys but work commitments last week made it impossible to get time for even a phone call.
Weekends are better for me but no-one is open on Saturday mornings.
Will try again this week and post my results.

I managed to get some time today to make a few phone calls. Just want to start by saying that everyone I spoke to was most helpful.

Anyway, I called BPS & spoke to Dave. The hourly rate for a run on the dyno is $181.50 however Dave reckons it will only take about 1/2 hour of their time so expect to pay $90.75 including GST. The Dyno was busy at the moment but should open up in a day or two. This Friday should be okay.

As I live very close to Coorparoo I then called Harding Performance (HP) and spoke to John. He said their dyno is not actually available for general hire and is only available for their software or for their in-house development tunes. Although my TDI Jetta has a HP supplied Oettinger tune (flashed back in 2010) this did not qualify in this instance. I also spoke to John about the recent changes (the APR / Oettinger split and then a month later the APR / HP split). Apparently APR are just not into diesels. John did say that I should give CNJ Motorsports at Underwood a try. They have a AWD dyno that can run in 2WD mode. John estimated that they would charge about $120 /hr.

I then called CNJ and spoke to Calvin. By now it was 4:30 pm so I did not want to take up too much of Calvins time. He said that dyno power run would be a flat $132. Availability was a week out at the moment.

                          So there you have it.

Thanks a lot that is some great info there. I know who to call and who certainly not to call.
