Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

Easiest way to tell is put it on a Dyno somewhere and have them log the boost and AFR's and you'll soon see if its tuned or not. With some of the tunes its possible to download the current data and even look at the map withing to see what they've actually done.

A well written tune would be better than eboost. Personally I don't see any benefit from fitting one. Is there an aspect of your current set up you don't like?

Dyno runs with logging - if I'm there that day at between $100~120.

As for the Eboost, yes there's no need for that in fact the factory setup is a lot more capable for the size of the turbo that you have on your car. The limitation in the top end in yours is both the turbo size and to a smaller extent the actuator preload. You'd sort of be better to put the eboost money into buying a K04 turbo setup from a Golf R or S3 - even then you still wouldn't benefit from running any aftermarket controller.
The other thing to note is that you would have to modify the tune to use the external controller anyway as the ECU will always be try to match specified with actual and it would get quite unhappy if it sees big variations in boost compared to what it expects to see.
For big turbo setups yes we would do something like this but I'm talking GT30 frames and larger. On all our 2867 setups for example we have always run with the ECU controlling boost quite nicely
