Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

  • 2nd Hand Miltek Cat Back Golf R MK6

I just picked up a 2nd hand Miltek CBE for my Mk6 Golf R, just wondering where people recommend i get it fitted.....i live in Lilyfield, Sydney

Volksmuller quote me $600....way too much!

There's also a hole in the connecting pipe of the Miltek exhaust.....is this going to be an issue or can it be easily welded to fix? Expensive to do? Have a look at the pics

If you look at the last picture that is zoomed in on the damage, you can see that the chip/slice actually goes straight through the pipe. Should i be worried or is it an easy fix?

Any exhaust place could weld that up and fit it for you for only a few bucks. Would be less than an hours work you would think.

a prominent workshop quoted me $460 to remove and refit for a mk6 gti, which would be simpler than the r (no driveshaft and removing engine cover is like peeling a peanut shell).

a specialist exhaust workshop, rob bliss at geebung qld, spent 1 hour to remove and refit and I was charged accordingly at their fair hourly rate.

1 hour excluded waiting time in the carpark to let the exhaust cool down of course

So i ended up getting it fitted at Fast Fit Mufflers in Leichardt (Sydney)

I took the cat back in and he got the car up over the pit to have a look and at first he didn't think it would fit (don't think he knew what he was talking about initially as he said they were different sized diameter pipes, probably his first time fitting it on a Golf R), but once he'd got his head around it he quoted me $250. They called me just over an hour later to tell me it was ready to pick up and they only ended up charging me $200

He seems to have done a decent job (no issues/rattles etc yet)

I did think it would sound a little louder, especially the DSG 'pop' under load, which leads me onto a couple of questions....

If i get the downpipe fitted does that make much of a difference to the sound (i know it will improve performance if i get a stage 2 ECU remap)

And what about the high flow cat? If i got that as well does that make much of a difference to the sound/performance?

I know de-cat is meant to be track only but does anyone have this on their road car R? Too loud? Much of a difference in performance?

Why not DIY they aren't too bad bolt on and off, have issues due to fear tail shafts but if you have a bit of mechanical nose and take you time. Probably even something on YouTube. Take the pipe to a muffler place and get them to weld it up first though.
