Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

  • help needed: weber 32/36 tuning

    Hey guys,

    So I had my weber tuned at a shop about 2 months ago. It runs great, except when going from 1/4 to full throttle (cruising to 'punch it marty!'). It bottoms out for about half a second and then goes H.A.M (hard as motherf@#$er). The tuner said that this couldn't be helped as there was just too much initial air. Does anyone know of a way to fix this? It's really **** when I want to punch it and it just nose dives before giving me the power, and it's scary how it goes from NOPE to DOPE so unexpectedly.

    I'm no expert on carbs but use to have 32/36 on a Ford RS2000. There are a few things you make sure are correct when tuning that carb.
    1. Float level should be correct as if to low will run to lean and to high could flood/flow over into and stall the motor.
    2. Do you have the correct linkage as if its to quick acting you could get what you discribbing as the card reacts quicker then the motor can and could stall for a split second.
    3. Cannot remember if that card has a pump yet but you could reduce the size.

    I eventually switched to a 36 dcd.
    Hope thar helps a bit.

      I'm fairly confident that the tuner would of ensured that the float bowl was set, I was just curious if anyone on the forums had particular experiences with this and if a solutions was found.

      The linkage was custom built by the tuner and allows for full throttle, I also don't think this is the issue in my case.

      the fuel pump is mechanical and attached to the motor. It's the stock pump and provides ideal pressure/volume for the 32/36 DGEV.

        No stress
        I was talking about the small pump on the card as per the link image 29 to 31on the carb that pumps a small amount of fuel ever time you put your foot on the pedal. Normally the fuel is sucked in by vacauum by this little diaphragm pumps a set volume to help the motor speed up. To much fuel and she stalls for a few seconds.



        I would double check the stuff myself as ive been to trusting with tuners before(not that i say your tuner is bad).
        There's loads of info out there on the net.

            I wasn't aware that the carb had a pump, admittedly this is my first proper DIY vehicle and also my first non-efi car. But I get my hands dirty on a bi-daily basis and am learning as I go.
