Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

They're not so hard to get. Repco have them you just got served by an idiot.

I'll have to look up some part numbers but It would only take a couple of phone calls to track one down for you if you want one in the tool box. Any Ryans re-seller can get them

They also undo the door hinges on a type 3!

They're sometimes called spline bits or tri-square. I forgot the exact size, I'll have to have a look at mine tomorrow.

Common fault that at these establishments and the likes, gives me the ****s and you just know before you walk through the door , they are going to say nah we dont have any, dont why we do it to ourselves. Anyway a good independent tool van will sell a complete kit with all sizes, i got mine from Tools Direct in Brizzy John the Mad Scotsman operates it and he has some good deals going on, cant quite rememeber the exact price but im guessing around $150 for a massive kit, including Torx,Allen, multispline and tamper proof. KC is the brand and havent broken any yet.
Dont laugh but ive been hearing great things about the Supercheap brand Supaworxs apparently they are a kingchrome brand and you get a lifetime warranty. Not bad and they look ok.
        Ill check em out.
        Cheers

Just replace them with 6mm allen keys as per the later model VAGs when you reassemble They don't need to be torqued high enough to warrant a triple square anyway. Things like head bolts should always use a multipoint of some description, though, as you're in deeper sh-t if you round one out

this is true, i will replace them thanks Stu but as you said you dont have to torque them up massive amounts anyway! so the 6mm allenkey does the trick for now

Here you go they're not mythical.

On the left we have a very worn out Kinchrome and on the right a new Teng Tools one.

                Everyone sells Kinchrome, even Bunnings!

Teng Tools are distributed by Ryans so Repco, Bursons etc shouldn't have any troubles getting them.

My local auto shop Summit Auto in Boronia stocks a big range and will take individual items from a full kit if you only want a specific tool.

                Here's a couple of Kits
                Spline, Ribe and Torx bits.

Dont mean to be bluntbut it might help if you read whats going on, the thing is running on 4 now. Leads , cap and rotor arm all have high resistance and cap arcing.
