  • DP with no tune

So I'm getting the Turbo XS downpipe this week, however my car isn't tuned, will this be an issue? Don't want issues with the engine or flow issues. I know I won't get any performance increase without a tune, just looking for sound at the moment.

don't leave it too long, I believe (but only heard) that with the CEL on the car will overfuel and possibly destroy your new cat. if youre not going to run a cat, don't stress too much.

that said, its best to get a tune as soon as you possibly can.

I don't believe you will have any issues running the dp minus tune, just won't get the benefits (as acknowledged). If the O2 sensor does its job you should avoid the CEL as well. However happy to defer to a more knowledgable authority..

          DP with no tune

You can run it but you are going to suck fuel so fast it's not funny I did it to my golf R and had to wait 2 weeks till I got the tune and was using a full tank of fuel in about 300 km plus it will have the cel light on
YAY I got my R!!!! White, recaro seats, 19" wheels, bluetooth, reverse camera

You can do it no problems, but best to get a tune as soon as possible, car might run abit odd for awhile untill it gets a tune because the stock factory tune isn't set for a different DP etc etc. Plus don't see why you'd look at mods before even thinking about a tune, it's the first thing you should do...

E.G: Put a aftermarket system on a 08 Subaru GT Liberty, the thing ran like ass for a week before I got the tune, put the tune on it and it ran like a dream, 70L tank drained in 450kms without the tune...

With the way these ECU's work, there shouldn't be any issues as long as the post-cat O2 workaround is in fact working and not causing error codes (not all error codes result in CEL's).

The car should be able to spool a little more freely, even without a tune.

its funny there are many different opinions with what happens when you change the DP.

coming from many turbo cars, it only increased the fun, even on the stock tune. im glad you have cleared it up for me, I also wont rush out to get a retune after changing my DP. ill do a few more mods to save on multiple tunes.

                cheers!

It will be OK but avoid the spacer if possible unless you are planning on just leaving it like this as I find the ECU doesn't like this at all for a few reasons, I'd just wait till you get it tuned properly or at least be prepared to remove it when it gets tuned
You will not make any more power than you did before until the ECU has time to adapt and even then its going to be minimal

that's like saying all mods are useless unless you get a tune, which we all know isn't correct.

theres only 1 way to find out. ill let you know when I do my DP before the tune

We put one of these dump pipes on Zbeasts car with the stock file and it made less than one kW difference at the peak, yes if you did this on a Jap car it would be a different story but I'm sorry this is just how it is.................

weird that the DP wouldn't make a difference. even I noticed the intake power delivery difference.

anyway, no point arguing about difference viewpoints

Why's this? I didn't think it made a difference with the spacer, it just avoided the CEL? Or does it affect the readings from the ECU?

                            DP with no tune

These car are very touchy they try keep things running as the file request in the tune so unless you change the requested parameters in the tune you will have very little to no change in any mods. Japan cars are very different they react to any mods very well without retuning all the time. Parso is very correct in his advice.

                              DP with no tune

Ive still got my o2 spacer fitted to my dump pipe even though my car is tuned - car runs perfect. Ive just left it fitted incase i need to flash back to stage 1 or stock tune anytime, i dont need to worry about getting a CEL.

My mates GTI also runs day in day out with the o2 spacer fitted to his dump pipe.
