  • Bluefin stage 2 tuning

I was browsing through few of the tuner's website, bluechip, apr, etc.
stage 2 requires few hardware parts fitted before it can be tuned.

just wondering, is there any specific brand or model of the parts required? or any generic stuff will work?

there seems to be so many CAI, exhaust, fuel pumps, etc.

my old Nissan had a tune, but it was custom dynoed tune, so it didn't matter what brand or model of the parts i had. it would just tune as efficient as possible. since these tunes are generic, not sure if it matters.

I don't think you need specific brands of parts; or else they would specify.

they probably recommend their own brands for 'best results' but i don't think its necessary.

ill be going stage 2 Bluefin shortly after i put my down pipe in.

however i WOULD perform the modifications they recommend before installing the tune.

The Bluefin tune is very generic (I have stage 1 Bluefin). Stage 1 of some of the more focussed tunes will give more kw for not many more $$ & the outcome will be almost as good as Stage 2 Bluefin IMO.

I can see the Bluefin has slightly lower figures...
however, it's almost 1/3 of any other tunes out there.

1/3? How much is a Bluefin now? They must have come down in price because mine was $666 & there are plenty of other tunes available for less than $1000. 1/3 of $1000 is $333 last time I looked.

I am loath to mention brands as that always starts a bun-fight but if you do your research you'll find there are at least 3 other tuners that are very competitive with Bluefin/Superchips.

BTW: I'm still a very happy Bluefin stage 1 customer but as I said, the tunes are generic (ie: they do the same tune for the UK where they are based (cool weather & 100ron availability) as they do for AUS (warmer weather & 98ron)

Their tunes are probably less generic than the other ones your thinking of as they will actually do tweaks of your own file for you free of charge - as in the case of differing dump-pipes or intakes for example. The power figures are not that much lower either - especially in the GTI's and more common models.Really It all comes down to how people want to call their various stage levels - which is why I hate calling our own tunes a stage 1 or stage 2 because our R1 stock hardware tune eliminates most other stage 2 ' s for example.
Their stage 2 file does have a fair bit more done to it that the stage 1 too by that I mean changes in the map data within. Depending on the exhaust and the cat it runs you might want to request the O2 sensor mods to be done at the same time in order to avoid any CEL's

I love my bluefin and their support, always happy to help. I am seriously thinking of doing dp and then stage 2 file, though finding a good, quiet and reasonably priced downpipe is a challenge.

Get the resonated version and it remains quiet and sounds good.

is there much difference between DP only vs full turbo back with stage 2?

also does anyone know if bluefin resets ECU flash counter to 0?
