  • Ceramic coating on DP?

What's the view on whether its a good thing to ceramic coat a DP - if it was $150 extra on top of the DP, is it worth it to make the engine bay area cooler (presumably)?

    thanks for any advice!

I think so. Had the extractors done on my v8 way back when. I lived in Sydney and in summer the temp would get to a point I would nearly have to stop. Got them coated and never had that problem again. Also did my Subaru and it reduced heat soak back into the turbo in heavy traffic.

      Don't bother IMO

Just grab it bare , go to super cheap auto or parts shop amdmvuymsome high temp paint. Spray it yourself for $20 or so

        Most definetly worth it!!

Btw the Supercheap paint will burn off in 10 mins at best.

It's high temp paint - made for the application. Prepped properly it should last ages - my dp is about 6000kms and clear and chip / flake free - for the purpose of sealing an mild steel exhaust its fine.
But for heat reduction yes ceramic coating is worth it

            Ceramic coating on DP?

Definetly yes - both my P3 gauge and my VCDS logs show that the exhaust temp is cooler both during normal driving and high RPM runs with the dump pipe coated vs when it wasn't coated.

Click here for some pics of my coated 42DD dump pipe: http://www.vwwatercooled.com/forums/...ad.php?t=70741

I got it coated by a place called ProCoat on the Central Coast for $220

Better still why not buy the Turbo XS Golf R one already Cerakoted for $999

Your engine bay will thank you for the heat reduction and if you go a bigger turbo expect a slight spool improvement too

                Ceramic coating on DP?

Ages? In another 6000 u'll wish u'd had it HPC'd. Now your up for time/labour, gaskets and ofcourse the surcharge for 'used' parts to be coated on top of your $150.
Anyways I had a few exhausts coated from new and a couple without. A quality performance coating is an excellent investment

+1 on HPC. makes a huge difference for temperatures in the engine bay

There's a difference between 3-5 degrees with Coated or not, I think for the money that it cost is worth it,

the 42DD stuff looks really nice. I wonder if mk6 golf R dump fits a scirocco R? or if not, I hope they are going to make one. they have some really nice stuff at reasonable prices.

The Golf R specific dump pipe probably will fit the Scirocco R, but the Mk5 / Mk6 GTi ones will definetly fit. Speak to Greg at Carformance if your interested and he will sort you out.

Make sure to get the resonated version if you go with the 42DD pipe, because the dump pipes sound like rubbish without one.

I don't like these due to the overly large radius of the bend on these which causes clearance issues with the shift cables. Seen it twice now. very heavy too but to be fair its a good price and it seems to work well

Yes the angle/radius of the bend is larger than my previous Scorpion DP, and the alignment of the pipes is also different too, but it sounds heaps better (due to the resonator) than the Scorpion DP i had.

The 42DD dump pipe on my car does rest on the shifter cables (manual gearbox) but hasn't caused any issues and it still shifts fine etc. At first i was a bit worried about the shifter cables, but it hasn't been a problem so far.
