  • Idea: Insulating the air intake tubing, to shield from heat.. ?

Any of the experts out there able to shed light on my question?...

Is there any merit in insulating the tubing/piping of the air intake, with say thermal exhaust wrap, or any other material?? The idea is to shield it from the upper engine bay heat..

My Stats: Mk4 Golf, GTI 1.8T conversion, APR stage 1, stock air, stock exhaust..

The difference would be negligible unless you had serious heat issues. Exhaust wrap won't do a great deal. I have seen guys ceramic coat their intlet piping before, but that's probably for the look as much as anything.

A better intercooler would yield much better gains.
