  • Feedback and experiences with DNA Tuning?

    Hi all,

I am considering moving from my existing Superchips Bluefin tune over to DNA Tuning. For those who are not aware, DNA Tuning are a sponsor on VWW and their HQ is based in England. I have spoken to John (Australian representative for DNA) back and forth a bit and he seems great and knowledgeable. They also seem to be have good Stage 1 tunes for a range of vehicles and then also be able to happily accomodate modifications for any further tuning tweaks - which is what im interested in.

Can anyone who has a DNA tune on their vehicle post up their experiences and results etc. After sales service? Are you a happy customer?

From searching around, i know there are some Golf GTI's, some Polo GTI's, some newer Polo's (77TSI etc) and also a Skoda vRS running the DNA software. The Skoda in particular is apparently getting great results.

    Thanks.

umm.. where are they PHYSICALLY located.

I like being able to knock on (or down) people's doors....
More opportunites have been lost from indecision, rather than wrong decision....

Head office is in the UK. The local distributor is based in VIC.

In a perfect world, I would also prefer to have a tuner in my town, but unfortunately there is no one within 200km or so from Newcastle.

I've heard nothing but positive reviews about John from DNA and the tunes too are one I the best out there for linearity of power delivery and street ability.

We just chipped the wife's TDi Beetle John is both a nice guy and easy to deal with. He's VIC based for those that asked earlier.

Same here - although limited reviews, the ones I can find are positive. Wondering why more people haven't chosen DNA if that's the case?

Thanks for the feedback. Happy with the new found power/torque in the Bettle now?

I dont have any experience with DNA but there are quite a few vw tuners in OZ (all reputable) some big, some small and a limited number of people that want to tune their ecu and then also a limited number of those people that actually right good reviews (people like to talk about bad expereinces). I'd say that a limited number of reviews doesnt mean they are not worthy of what they do. I'm all for getting a tune done by a small representative in OZ of a bigger UK based firm. You usually get better one on one.

Nice addition to the 1.9 TDi; the wife says it revs better through the range, effortless - I love the torque it has

Thanks for the positive review Chris, really appreciate it.

I guess as most of my customers know, DNA Tuning Australia is not my full time profession (I'm an Automation/Control Systems Engineer) and thus things are kept relatively low key. I do not advertise much, I have no employees, nor own a workshop, etc. but the savings are passed on to my customers and I promise to only offer the best tunes that DNA UK has to offer. Even though DNA Tuning UK tune all sorts of European cars, my main interest is in Audi/VW/VAG in general and thus I'm not out there to make every buck possible, etc.

Obviously I don't operate DNA Tuning Australia as a non-profit business, but my ultimate goal is to get involved with the VWWC crowd and offer fellow car enthusiasts with decent remaps for their rides. I have a great relationship with the guys in the UK and can thus request all sorts of custom tunes and adjustments for a range of custom modified cars.

Hi John - yes I presumed that DNA tuning was a job you did "on the side". Seems a lot of the forum sponsors and other online type stores have a "day job".

I was just hoping for some feedback from people who have had a DNA tune - in particular I was hoping for a Golf R / GTI owner or the Skoda Octavia vRS owner you were telling me about to chime in.

I am still eager to try the DNA tune for my car (am currently trying to sell my existing Bluefin to help fund it - as I'm not made of money...unfortunately), but thought I'd try to get some feedback in the meantime.

I've been very happy with mine. Boost comes on in a very linear fashion, which makes it easy to commute in. Also seen slight (probably offset by a heavier foot ) improvement in fuel economy. One of the biggest reasons I went with DNA though was value for money... With the handheld tuner and two tunes I've got nothing to complain about.

And thanks RandomX - but after reading your signature, im curious why you wouldn't be letting DNA tune your new Polo GTI if you were happy with their service and tune on your 77TSI? Seems logical to stay with DNA if you have been happy with them previously, providing DNA are able to tune the new Polo GTI of course?

How does DSG on MK5 cope with extra boost and power? does it shift as well as when factory?
                            06 Polo GTI - REVO Stage 2 = 140kw @ wheels.
06 Golf GTI - Bluefin Stage 1 blacked out with ED30 theme, leather, xenon, etc.

The DSG will always have its quirks but I haven't noticed any real change since having the tune done - maybe on the odd ocassion it gets caught in the wrong gear...

As for longevity, I guess time will tell. It does sit in the back of my mind (and is one of the reasons I haven't gone stg2 even though I have the mods to make it happen). But there are plenty of guys running way more power through their DSGs and you don't hear too many power-related stories.
