Bluefin hand unit - error code erase on another vehicle?

I have a Bluefin hand controller and would like to know if i can use it to clear an error code on another VW (not my car but my mates GTI)?

I dont want to possibly lock up either my friends car or my Bluefin. Anyone tried using theirs on someone else's car before?
