Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. Ok I gave myself a test today. One brand new Golf 6 GTi with 700km on the clock. New MED17.5 Tuner protected DME. I have never tuned one of these. So I decided to test myself, base run on dyno in shoot 4 with 28.8AT and 30IT was 126.6kw and 292.2Nm I ran the car three times. Then I allowed it 10 mins low speed running with the main fans in my dyno cell running. I then gave it another run and the figures were within 2kw. I then read the contents of the DME over OBD2, remember this is tuner protected DME. With my newly acquired (expensive) checksum routine I set about tuning it. I completed the entire job in around 4 hours, this included 40mins to hook up the boost reference, what a prick of a place to put it. Anyway all tuning completed in around 31/2 hours, I needed 5 versions before I was happy that no more could be produced. Increase was 149.4Kw and 361Nm at 1bar boost.
    Given the same car again I believe I could complete this job in two or three versions. I will endeavour to put up the dyno image.
    I would charge $995 to carry out this work on a 2WD GTi. I think that this represents’ good value and remember the software is written specifically for that car, by my in front of you

        Great work, any chance an R could get to 300awkw's?
        Now that would be exceptional

          Hi Dubbers.
          I would just like to throw an update out there for all who are interested. I have recently handed my car over to James @ BPS chiptek. My vehicle to date has a cat-back, CAI & APR flash fitted. I will be posting the cars results (or james@BPS) as it sits with the APR tune and all parts fitted, then with his tune completed. They will be compared - on the same day, with the same temperatures, with the same settings and on the same dyno. If anything, this should be the most accurate comparison out there.

          I look forward to seeing what he can do and some real world results on the same dyno & on the same day with temperatures.

          Cheers.

                  After looking around at options to tune my Golf R a friend of mine recommended Bayside Performance Services in Cleveland, Brisbane. BPS Owner James has been tuning vehicles such as porches, BMW, Mercedes and VW/Audi for almost 30 years. In fact there was a hot C63 and a 911 parked up there when I went there. Anyways, BPS have a level 1 tune package for the Golf R that includes the following;
                  • Stock Dyno Chart
                  • Level 1 tune (vehicle specific)
                  • Post Tune Dyno Chart
                  • Free Back to Base tune service

                  All this for $1095. Very good value indeed!

                  The reason I decided to use BPS over APR (and others) was that I wanted the before and after Dyno charts for peace of mind. I also like the fact that James writes the software himself and you get to talk to him in person. Most of all I wanted the tune to be specific to my vehicle and done on the on site Dyno at BPS and not just one tune fits all like some other places do. Now for the results...

                  My Golf R dyno'd at 137awKw stock and then increased upto 171awKw post level 1 tune. Not bad considering an APR Stage II tuned vehcile was recently Dyno'd at 177awkw and the result posted on this forum.

                  The numbers only tell part of the story as the car has been completely transformed on road with more torque now 392nm at the wheels and it is much more fun to drive. I cannot recommend James and the guys at BPS highly enough for VW tuning. Thanks!

                  I can't wait for the next level from BPS which will include TBE, Fuel pump, Intercooler etc which they are currently working on. Hopefully that will be very reasonably priced also!

                  I have the Dyno results chart but don't two how to put it up on this site yet! Feel free to PM me with your email address can send it to you if you want.

                  James and BPS details are as follows;

                  Hi All,

                  I have since been back to BPS and had a BPS Downpipe and full stainless exhaust put on my Golf R and along with a retune it is now pulling just shy of 200awkw (I read on this forum somewhere an APR stage II with intercooler and intake also only got 177awkw).

                  The exhaust sounds great it has a deep note with zero drone and I would say it sounds better that the APR one I heard previously. Anyone interested in taking the next step after a tune in getting a downpipe and/or full exhaust should definately look James up at BPS you won't be disappointed. I hope to get the car back to BPS soon and will try and take some pictures of the exhaust with the car on a hoist. Best of all the full exhaust and tune didn't cost an arm and a leg in fact the package is very reasonably priced considering the build quality and sound and of course the awkw gains.

                    As mentioned before, the 177awkw was on a faulty dyno....

                    Not that different dyno's are comparable, but on the weekend in the Melbourne Dyno Meet, an APR Stage 2+ car did 192awkw

                    But it's good that you're happy with the product and that we have yet another option available to us in Australia.

                    Photos and information on the BPS Downpipe for the R would be great

                      Is that with the stock fuel pump? What are the midrange gains like?

                        Yes stock fuel pump and the midrange gains are very noticeable.

                        Has anyone else had a BPS tune or exhaust done for their Golf???

                          I was thinking of going to BPS and get the exhaust and tune as well.
                          Can you share some pic of it or even a short video clap so I can have a hear on how it is like?

                          Thank
