Intercooler??

just bought a mkiv gti that came with a front mount intercooler and all plumbing not installed. am i likely to see any obvious gains in power/response if i install it?

Power gain would only be 2-3kw atw .... HOWEVER when heatsoak sets in (after 25mins driving in the city) a car with the SMIC loses 20-30kw atw where the car with FMIC loses almost nothing.

So, you're not going to gain much extra, but you will keep what you have when it gets hot where normally you would lose 30% ....

It is a great mod and worth every $$$$

Not massive if the car has not been chipped, a good investment if the car has been chipped.

The main benefit will be the oppportunity to then safely raise boost preasure as your inlet temperatures will be far lower than ambiet compared to the standard one.
