Exactly, I'm not sure that the Golf GTI will do a 5 second flat, but I know it will do a 5.5 second, which is still a 1.4 second improvement. REXman can use bold all he wants, but he's arguing against things that we've all already experienced first hand with our own eyes in real life.
Some magazines have achieved a 6.5 second 0-100km/h for the stock GTI (have not done any performance testing to my car yet). So it's more like a 1 second improvement. This is still bloody good for a FWD, even faster than the Focus RS!
I dont give a toss about what the numbers say - with the Stage 1 and CAI - this car feels miles quicker than stock.
The whole experience is completely different.
This I completely agree with. I honestly can feel a difference with just an air filter as funny as that sounds. Any mod brings a lot of excitement and can change the whole feel. ( a simple air filter gives a throatier sound, and you can hear turbo spool heaps better.) Then when you consider good solid bang mods like a fuel pump, a TBE or a tune, it feels heaps quicker!!
I have a descent amount of experience with modding cars and I know the realities of what simple mods like TBE or a tune, alone, can do.
Thirty extra kilowatts will not give a 1300kg fwd golf, a 2 sec improvement in the 0-100 sprint. That is all I am saying. That sort of performance will take a stage 3 or something which uses what parts and costs how much exactly?
I believe the highly modified STG 3 GTI will have a tough time getting into the 4s even.. But thats another discussion!
Disclaimer: Just to be clear I am almost definitely getting a tune, and more than likely the APR one just cause of everyones joy with it.

Yes, but that's like saying "some people have been able to get a flat 5 second 0 to 100 for their Stage I GTI". Which brings us straight back to the 1.5 second improvement.
Typically, you're not going to get 5 seconds flat, but it is possible. Typically you're not going to get the stock GTI to do 6.5 seconds, but it is possible. In any case, the average increase in acceleration in the case of the Golf GTI is more than 1 second. I'm still not sure why everyone is arguing about stuff which there is a long history of real life verified results.

True, not 2 seconds for a Golf on ECU alone. But initially you were saying it wouldn't give you 1 second, which it will - more than. Verified and proven many many times.
The 2 second increase is for the Polo GTI, again verified and proven. But then, it's more than a 30kw increase, and it's less than 1300kg, nor a Golf.
As for the Stage 3, since you mentioned it, manual Stage 3 GTI's have done 0 to 100 times in the high 4 second range, let alone DSG versions! (Though mind you, when I bothered collecting the details on this, it was MKV, and people weren't really doing Stage 3 DSG conversions at that stage, so I'm not sure if there would be any further advantage with a DSG GTI due to traction... maybe someone else has info on MK6 Stage 3 GTI times).

Sounds good, Greg - remove all those giant subwoofer things first please
No worries, you can borrow it and hand it back with an RSC and Intake on it
Don't have any audio upgrades on this one fellas, the stock setup sounds noticeably better than the MK5 so haven't bothered yet.
Either way I don't doubt that the car's 0-100 increased by 1 sec, just like the power/gains are achievable from what is advertised based on a few dyno's in the past (not just the butt-dyno).
I thought it was the other way around that a lot of Jap car piggy back ECU's didn't gain that much, whereas our cars are more detuned from the factory.

That would seem to be the crux of the issue which has caused the last several pages of discussion.
