  • Stuck my GTI up on a Dyno a couple of weeks ago and, allowing for driveline losses the figures seem pretty close to APRs claims. I was however surprised by how rich the tune is at the top end.

If you dig a hole and it is in the wrong place, digging it deeper isn't going to help.

    • Thats spot on, the "richness" is the component protection maps, as we mentioned in the other thread, keeps those EGT's in check!

      • Got my car after the 15k service this afternoon - car has it's mojo back, and then some. I might've even said to myself that I don't really need the APR for now (not that that will stop me).

Only thing is I forgot to ask about the horn not working w/o ignition. I've not even tried it on my car still.

btw Guy - not sure if you work at the same place as Dean (Volkspower)... if yes - when do you guys close shop for the holidays so I can visit before then?
Some say he was the Stig... all we know is that he drives a VW Transporter.

              • Both? I'm really fat as well so I guess it might slow the car down heaps.

                • DSG ~ 5-00 seconds flat. about 5.5 for the manual. Hooking them up is the trick.

Not bad at all for a FWD, considering Fab_R just recently did a 4.37 in his R.

5 seconds flat for a stock DSG GTI with only an APR stage 1 tune? So it improves the stated stock launch by almost 2 seconds??

yep, but as above, negating the wheelspin is the trick. Running about 18psi in the tyres helps.

Guy, is that a typo? 18psi in the tyres? I would have thought 38psi...

                            • Less wheel spin, not more

                                Whoa.

The figures I've heard bandied about are that a stock DSG will do somewhere between 6.5 and 6.9 (I've not seen any magazine test faster than 6.5), and the stage 1 improves on this by approximately half a second. I'd be hugely impressed if a stage 1 could manage a sub-6, let alone a low 5.

Guy - how much of this, in your opinion, is down to super-low tyre pressures? What's a realistic time in your experience for a DSG car running standard pressure (38psi) 18s?

(Just a point of comparison - a Mazda3 MPS manual tends only to manage a low-mid 6 time with very similar power, torque and power/weight figures to a stage 1 GTI.)
