Ross-Tech Measuring blocks

Ok, so I got my little blue cale off flea bay and downloaded the appropiate shareware version of the software and now I want to do some basic data logging to see how things are running.



Before I dive head first into upgrading my turbo, I want to make sure everything is currently running all ok. I want to be looking at things such as MAF readings etc. I'm not a huge tech head when it comes to interpreting the read outs but I have google as my friend so i can compare variables against others.

So, where do I start?

Neil, with your ECU there's not the best selection of things to log. I log 05 14 and 15 for MAF and timing pull IIRC.

On the ME7 ECUs like the Polo and TT etc, you can get MAF, boost and lambda which is probably the best selection.

You also get engine speed too.

Have a look at logworks 3 on google and download it. I'll send you over some of the logs I took of the A3 to check out. It'll be engine speed, boost and lambda.

the shareware version doesn't log boost as far as i know (you can log up to block 25) and your gti probably doesn't hava a map sensor anyway (assuming 99 model - agu dbc). you can log block 002 and a few other ones for maf readings (stock car should have about 120 g/s, chipped about 170 g/s) if you get less than that or irregular readout then your maf could be going bad. Block 001 also gives you throttle angle/ignition timing. Block 002 - intake temp. Block 007 gives you lambda values (as voltage - narrow band o2 pre cat sensor in early cars) should be b/n 0.75-0.9v, if it's above 1 means you are running lean.

hey Gavin, how did you log boost on you a3? i thought you had an agu engine like me, just a different ecu (yours ending with 018R), do these have a map sensor?

Mine was an AQ. I used an Innovate LM1 and Aux Box to log boost and lambda. You view the results with logworks.

Vag-com Logview

I found this program to be really good when I want to convert VCDS loged data from excel table to the graph.

Initiatially I thought why bother as VScope is included in Vag-Com. But after loading it up I see it does stuff the included VScope can't, so is worth having. Thanks for the tip Transporter.

Rosstech is a bit of a black art from what I make out. I don't know how people work these things out. If there is a decent "how to" manual about for it I wouldn't mind reading it.

Mind you with a Mk3 there isn't a lot you can do, still for $20 it's a bit of fun. Just gotta get it up and running on the new laptop.

Twincharger 1.4

I have only read their official manual which you probably also have. Shows you how to run the software and basic stuff but I too want more info. Suspect a proper service manual for my car would be invaluable but cant see myself affording one. Sure is a learning curve.

I have the 118TSI Twincharger and my engine controller is the 03C-906-027-G. Unfortunately it appears there are no Ross-Tech labels files for it yet. This means some of the eye candy does not appear like specifications for values. But still all works OK. Same with the DSG7 controller 0AM-300-046-C which is also missing label files. Chasing it up with Ross-Tech but nothing heard yet.

In the mean time does anyone know if there are measuring blocks to show when the supercharger or turbo are cutting in and out? Boost press obviously indicates one or other or both are running. But I was after something specific to track each device. How about the divertor valve thingy position? I know thats not its real name but the valve that allows the air to bypass the supercharger. Be good to able to see what it is doing.

And did you noticed that you can jump from saved excel table when you select a row with data straight to the graph and row you selected is a cursor. I like it I think that it is much better than graph mode from Ross-Tech.

No I did not - thats neat. Another really worthwhile feature, is that dieselpower logview allows you to combine, superimpose and compare multiple test runs as I did here.

Also If you click on tabs with measured values at the bottom, corresponding line doesn't show in graph, so you can turn it on and off as you like.

I go on diesepower.cz forum from time to time and have downloaded some good and many bad logs, just to have different examples. There is a lot of knowledge on that site too. They use the Logview when people who bought vag-com cable can't interpret test results of what they've measured, they post post the log and someone with the knowledge tell them if it's good or bad.

It works well.
Example: 81kW TDI kkk turbo, owner not sure about his MAF.
MAF sensor tested with vag-com Log here look for Log1.CSV file (it stays there for 2 weeks than it's automatically deleted)

Others replied him just clean MAF sensor (Pierburg) and all should be "ok".
It looked like right answer to me.
