Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

A set of mild cams (they are about $500-600 Aus)
Chip $1k ( I know its over priced but I dont set these prices!)

This will give you the most bang for buck then your better off pulling engine apart and

83mm Pistons , raised compression , over size valves , titanium retainers and collets , schrik manifold , extractors , machined throttle body .

This will probably cost ya around $7k to do locally and probably yield same power results as above .

Extractors are a waste until you start doing serious work . chip and a mild set of cams dont flow much more than stock so you dont need them . The exhaust manifold is a really good design so until your flowing there aint much point .

But I'm not looking for serious power. How many times have I said it in this thread....I just want a bit of kick!

Thankyou for the experiences shared though.

Just take weight out of the car . Its far more economical way of going faster

So you already have a cat back and an intake (almost done) What else would you need to get to 120kw, cams? A head port? Both?
I'm also very interested in this as well Mickey, I'd like to see what people have to say...
Ok lets start i think that you are on crack with these figures so I'll just laugh at you

Mickey I did cams, porting, chip exhaust and intake made 114kwatw **** all!

Lose the weight and don't worry bout it, or you'll be spending the kinds of money I am doing to get what you want!

Last month we redyno'd another VR that I have been working on which is all NA with $15k worth of engine work and got 160.2 kwatw which now has 1200kms since its do over, this thing pulls like a mofo and you would not recognise it as a monster it looks like a total POS on the outside!

You have got to pay to play!
I'm soo euro even my missus is shaved...

there are feasable options supercharger kits cost round about 4k and are the best way to source power out of a vr6 engine. anyhow lets get back on topic.

Exactly what i was going to say haha, also going sideways is just as exciting as 150 (i doubt) through corners.

From what you guys are saying the VR doesnt seem to be a very good motor for power in N/A form.

I have read that the chip only gives single figure HP, for 1k i would expect ALOT more than 5-9hp. Full exhaust can't hurt even though it supposedly wont do much.

I think by kick you want a bit more responsiveness. For that its the same old ingredients: CAI, cam and exhaust, also taking car off the engine would give it a bit more edge, throw in a set of good (magnecor) leads, plugs, good oil, good fuel, clean filters etc it went a looong way in my 8v.

Has anyone looked in to a ITB VR?

Google is god. VWWC is not.

mk3pete, what was the quoted power figure for that kit?

sorry im talking without labour charge where as you are right! 30k you can buy a custom built 10 second guarrantied engine from the states or 30k heck you can buy an r32 engine for that with moddified loom and custom box

Guys despite what some of you may think about chargers and turbo's, I'm most definitely not interested whatsoever in reading about them in this thread. Keep the discussion to mods of the head/cams/intake/exhaust/block/whatever of an NA vr6 for a little extra oomph - no all-out mods discussed, no FI. Otherwise I'll just delete the thread.
