Stu, you could use the eng you have now I'm pretty sure. You'd just have to upgrade to a different throttle body (say off a 2.0 EFI] Your 1.8 is already injected.

 I had the alternator undeneath. I can't remeber why I did it that way around, maybe I had troubles fitting the supercharger down lower. If you can make it work down low it would be better because it is a big heavy thing to have up high. I had a small intercooler up in front of the radiator. It was off a tdi range rover of all things.  MK 3 electronic injectors are in the manifold and protrude into the head through a wierd key hole shaped inlet port.
 
 MK2 K-Jet injectors are in the head itself.
 
 I have heard tell of people using electronic injectors in the K-Jet head but I believe this requires machining of the head itself or custom injector holders.

 so would i be better off sealing up the injector holes i have atm and then machining the head to fit the mk3 manifold? or could i make up a fuel rail with some 330cc injectors and then fit this to either the manifold or drill and tap the existing head...

 You should be aiming to hit the back of the valve with the fuel spray from the injector. Each of the MK2 and MK3 systems are designed to do just that. So the stock injector position for each type of head is the ideal.
 
 You'll still need to put the injectors somewhere with ITBs.
 
 If I were you I'd do a bit more research about the K-Jet fuel enrichment setup used on the turbo Audis via a manifold pressure feedback circuit into the WUR.

 I have heard of Kjet injector seals modified to fit electronic injectors, it may have been the ports that the plastic injector inserts sit in that were modified to suit plastic inserts for electronic injectors.
 That way you retain the factory injection position.

 There are lots of old Kjet turbo cars that you could use parts from. The Ferrari F40 was a Kjet Turbo 
 
 Another option would be a blow through carburettor set up (probably mentioned already). The original Lotus Esprit Turbo used twin Dellorto's being blown through.

 the esprit turbo was brilliant aswell - back in the 70's, 225hp from a 1.9 inline 4, in the perrrrrrfect body. gives me those man feelings... sheesh.
