Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

  • Downpipe for Mk6 GTI

Hi I have a 2012 GTI with BSR stage 1 tune, which gives plenty more punch to an already nice setup. Exhaust is stock as is the intake and filter. I'm seeking advice on whether a catted 3inch downpipe would work nicely with stock catback exhaust and BSR stage 1 tune? I like the quietness of the stock catback. A little more grumble would be ok, but I'm a older guy who leans toward a more refined, rather than a rorty sound. I'd appreciate input from those with more experience.

A downpipe on a stock cat back gives off a nicer deeper note and makes dsg farts a lot more noticeable ... I don't know about bsr tunes but most other tunes will need an upgrade to stage 2 software as you may encounter a CEL with the down pipe installed

Thanks for reply. BSR apparently do not have a stage 2 and anyway stage 1 and bit with downpipe is enough extra grunt for me, otherwise I'm upgrading brakes etc. What is that causes the CEL with a chsnge to a 3 inch downpipe? I'm not across this stuff but I hoped with a catted downpipe and O2 sensors connected up as per stock I might escape this issue?

It's an oxygen sensor that triggers the CEL. You can get a spacer for this O2 Sensor Spacer - 42 Draft Designs

Great thanks for the link. I'm starting to get the picture of how to go about it. Can anyone tell me if my CCZB engine has a different flange at the turbo from the CCTA and CBFA motors? I like to avoid ordering the wrong pipe.

They are all the same - as long as you buy a Mk6 GTI specific downpipe you will be fine.
