Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

  • Exhaust for 7.5 GTI

    Hi All,

I have a few questions and was hoping that someone here could answer them.

I was on the verge on getting a new catback exhaust on my mk7.5 gti when i was informed that the stock setup is valved.

I assume that the valves open when you are in sports mode hence why the fart sound is much louder.

    Can anyone confirm this?

I am now thinking of just a downpipe with the stock catback.

Does anyone have such a setup? If so, how loud is it in sports mode as opposed to the other modes?

Wouldn’t mind hearing it in person. I’m in melbourne and if anyone here with a mk7/7.5 gti with a downpipe and stock cat is willing to share that would be greatly appreciated.

    Cheers

I am in a similar boat as you.

If you go downpipe. You will need a tune and that will void warranty?

If you got just Cat back exhaust like this :
Cat-back-system dual L/R with resonated front section (selectable tail pipes), incl. EC homologation

You will still retain warranty if anything goes ?

other then that. I too am very curious to know what a downpipe only setup will sound like.
