Didn't bring any trophies home from DOVW this year but I did get this......















It's quite an odd ball. Will have to get it home before I can figure out it's heritage.

Appears to be US spec with RHD conversion.

It's got a 2E motor running on LPG - seriously dodgy conversion.

Stock fuel tank is missing, I'll probably have to make 1 from scratch.

Rust in the usual places, nothing I haven't tackled before.

Canopy will be for sale, I don't think I want to use it.

Came from a NSW country VW shop that went out of business last year.

Not sure what the plan is yet. First job will be to address the bodywork issues.

LPG? seriously? The 2E motor still has it's injectors and loom attached even though it's gas only.

It's got a 5 speed box but they didn't have the right gearbox mount so there's a bolt welded to the chassis rail to hold the gearbox up.

If this is an example of VW Country workmanship I'm not surprised they went out of business.

I doubt I'll ever know the full history of this thing.

I'm sure there will be many more revelations when it comes home and I pull it apart.

Thanks Grant, would you even be able to ship in a fuel tank? I thought customs would have a fit. Fuel tanks for these things are very rare now.

I can make an aluminium tank pretty easily but I would like to get a set of straps, fuel filler neck and cap.

Sheet metal wise I don't know yet. Front is all golf so that's easy. I might need floor sections depending on what the floor is like.

I have a box with 3 x MK1 Scirocco guards about ready to ship from LA at present, so may be able to consolidate with that shipment anything your needing that can be found.

I'll get the car home on Saturday morning and take a look them. I'm in Sydney for work right now which is slowing me down a bit right now.

The shouldn't bee too much I can't source here.

There's rust in all the usual MK1 places up front but the back seems pretty clean so far.

I will potentially need......
A better tailgate if one appears magically.
Fuel tank
Fuel filler and cap
Floor sections for the bed.
hood liner bows and clips (although I should be able to adapt sedan ones if I need to.

Up front I was planning on buying new repair sections for
pillars
sills floor pans
etc if I need them.

I've got a few US contacts too and I'll start reaching out once I've worked up the shopping list.

Got it home OK.

There's a lot of rust up front, I think I'll just buy in the rust repair panels from heritage and replace as much as I can.



The bed is wavy but not rusty.



Bonus doors in the back.



Uncracked dash! It's one of the hard plastic ones.

No door on glovebox.

Just be aware Pete that the inner guards are double skinned similar to the convertable. Could be a real PITA to get at all the rot...

Yep, I'm pricing out repairs panels for everything forward of the windscreen.. I think I'll have to pull it all apart.
