  • Thanks to everyone that came out and said hi today!

The second round was my fastest with a new personal best of 1:45:15.
I think I overdid it on the brakes though, pedal travel was a bit long at the beginning of the 3rd round. It was enough to make it through the round but they let the learnertics out there and the traffic was way scary.

I packed up after the third round, the brakes are stuffed now, flat to the floor just rolling the car off the trailer. I suspect it's just brake fluid needs changing, the pads are all fine. I must have boiled it in the second round.

    Next stop DOVW !

    • Well done Peter! Was great to catch up with you guys today at your VW stand

Brake fluid. I have had good experience with RBF600..takes the heat, firmer pedal feel etc. Even though hydroscopic stuff, I have never noticed any change over the last 5 years. You got stainless lines?

        • Hi all....Hey Pete you should be happy with yourself with a PB today............ So the brakes are now the weak link in the chain. I'm guessing your using dot 4 fluid which has a fairly high boiling point. If your not doing it already a good idea is to bleed fresh fluid through the system just before each event......... I'm using AP Racing 600 brake fluid in the rally car which has a boiling point of 300 degrees C and I've never had any loss of pedal height but I still bleed some fresh fluid into the calipers especially before events. The down side is that it's $50 for 500ml's. I'd be suprised if good fresh dot 4 wasn't up to it for what your doing in the sprints.....Cheers...Geoff

Cheers Geoff, It's DOT4, I'll have to check the brand, it was something reputable from memory.

There might be something else at play of course, fluid is my first theory until I take a closer look.

I have flushed the system sometime since April, I remember using the mightyvac I brought back from the US to do it. Come to think of it I probably should have changed it again before now, there's been a few events since then.

                    • That last photo with the "mps", did it end up overtaking you on the main straight?

You guys were head to head.

                      Good race.

                      • He probably would have passed me. There were a few street cars running in my class that were fast in a straight line but timid in the corners.

Trouble is they were dangerous, I swear one of them was prepared to die in order to overtake me mid chicane. I'd just got the weight of the car shifted over and was set to turn in when one of them came straight up the inside right across the race line. Of course he nearly went into the fence 'cos cars don't turn 90° at that speed .

Idiots.. Just goes to prove once again that you don't need skill or brains to own a fast car.

It's an ego thing. He felt that because you were driving in an "old POS VW" (i don't think it is but he most likely thought it..) that you should have been behind him i'd say. What a wanker.

                              • Flushed the brakes today , seems to have fixed up the pedal height.

Picked up the gear box on Saturday morning, Won't get a chance to try it out in anger for a while though. I think the next race will be next year now.

Plenty of time to pop the new box in over Christmas.

Next outing is DOVW, the car will be on display in the motorsport section in race trim.
