Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

I'll look up the numbers and let you know.

Reds are great on the track, last well and don't fade, pulling -1.2Gs under brakes.

Was previously running Mitex Red Box, they stopped OK but they wore out so quick I was changing them every before race day.
ah that would be great! just organising new pads and braided lines and have heard good things about green stuff pads...

    • Went out to Snadown today for round 2 of the VSSC series.

Car was playing up a bit with fueling issues about 2 laps into each round. I suspect float levels and needle/seat issues again.

Still got some good laps in, just retired early in each round.

White's sporting a new look, I've ditched the bumper to gain some airflow through the extra openings behind the bumper.

I also gave the nose a clean up, with a quick strip back and respray after hitting some debris out at Phillip Island and tearing the spoiler mounts out.

Hope you get to the source of the misfire soon, Peter. Very frustrating that there was no way we could test for it in the pits.

                          • I've been trying to track down my power loss issue.

I haven't been able to find an obvious cause yet.

I pulled the carbs apart, the float levels were only off by a couple of mm.

As a precaution I've changed the fuel filter and pump as well.

The ignition leads check out. I might replace the coil just in case.

I was struck by the thought that it might have been a tappet closing up so I checked all the valve adjustments today.

There were only 2 that were marginal and they were only 0.02 under minimum. I managed to find fractional shims to bring them back in line. I doubt they were the cause.

Amazing how clean a race motor stays inside.

                            • Well that's everything I could think of at Sandown that day plus the tappets

I hope it all comes good when we're back there in July.

Did you see the extra pics of White and the Pod by the HSV Owners' Club photographer?
