Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled
After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.
Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before.
We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

Heaps of Pugs and some very quick ones at that. There was a turbo V6 505 in my class, crazy fast!
I didn't manage to get round 1 on video, I forgot to hit the record button!
Round 2 Got stopped (Red Flag) and the re-started.
Here's the first attempt at Round 2.
I'm experimenting with putting a speedo and Tacho in front of the camera.
Didn't work as well as I'd hoped the displays are multiplexed and the frame rate of the camera does weird stuff I need to figure out.
The speedo I could only calibrate at 60Km/h so it's a bit off when it's reading 177 it's roughly 189 or so.

Here's something interesting.
I'm playing about with a fast GPS receiver. The accuracy is pretty good.
Here's a screen grab of the corner where I spun out.

I think it was red flagged as the pug spun out on the warm up lap and stopped real close to the edge of the track.
That inconspicuous car in front is a Pugeot 504, I think it's a 2850cc V6, he wasn't running in my class.79 MK1 Golf Wreck to Race / 79 MK1 Golf The Red Thread / 76 MK1 Golf Kamei Race Car

After Phillip Island I'd lost a throttle return spring, that's been replaced now and I've got a couple of spares to take track side too.
I also got in the bracket and screws to set up the choke mechanism properly, it makes cold start fractionally easier.
I've decided to get in some more training and will go out to the Island again this weekend while it's still fresh in my head.
Today I put the passenger seat back in and set up a harness for the instructor.
I also bled the brakes and replaced the front pads. The slotted rotors are great but they eat pads real quick.
I'm running on Saturday. Regs are here Phillip Island Auto Racing Club If you're considering getting started, licences are available on the day.
It's election day so I'm hoping for a quiet day with lots of track time.
I was going to run in the G5 sprints on Sunday but I think the training will help and I want to be ready for round 3 of the VSSC series.79 MK1 Golf Wreck to Race / 79 MK1 Golf The Red Thread / 76 MK1 Golf Kamei Race Car

Saturday went well, here's some videos if you want to watch me going around and around.
Just practising , managed to correct a few behaviours, figure some stuff out and get some good advice from the locals.
Session 1 got stopped early due to cars stuck on the track.
Here's the resumption of session 1
