Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

Yep Dellorto DHLA 40mm. Freshly remanufactured by the Carby Shop. They were well beyond just "putting a kit" through them.

Yeah I figure these will go faster than K-Jet!

Still got to install the mech advance distributor too, which will mean losing the electronic ignition for the moment.

Oops. I'd like to use all the MK2 Ignition stuff if I can, I re-did all the wiring and can't really be sodded pulling it all out.

Still keen to see your dizzy, I'm sure I'll find a car to put it in.

Carby Shop has been mentioned a few times by waterboy, it's in Wantirna, Sherwood Ave, just off Lewis road. It's around the corner from Knox shopping centre.

The rebuild wasn't cheap - $220 each - but they were far gone I have no doubt that hours of labour involved jusify the price. Just the kit for these is $50.

The carbs were jetted for a 1600 Here's the settings, I might need to drop the mains to 120's but I'll drive it first and see how it runs.

Pump's in , just a little facet style monoblock pump, picked one that delivers just the right pressure. Wiring tomorrow, I'll hook it up to the cut off relay as before with the K-Jet to keep it track legal.

Made up brackets to hang it off the K-Jet pump rubber mounts.

Only a couple of little projects to finish off during the week, wiring and throttle cable then I should be able to make some noise.

                      • yeh i've done the gasket kit on my Weber, was pretty easy.

that looks like the fuel pump that i have, however i might go and buy anotherone with the specs that i want so i know i have the fuel supply there and dont have the same problem of an empty float bowl at high RPMs.

looking forward to hearing the noises in person

Yeah that was my original plan but the carbs were too far gone. I think they'd passed through a few hands with out being fitted to a car. They were full of crystalised jelly like goo and water. A lot of the moving internals were siezed up with corrosion. I pulled the tops off the float chambers, had a little cry, then took them to the carby shop.

There was sand blasting and acid bathing required to bring these back from the dead.

Lesson to be learned here about cleaning and drying carbs before they're put into storage.

I'm surprised that you're running out of fuel with one of these pumps, they'll usually flow litres per minute. I used one on my 1835 beetle feeding twin 40 DCNs and it had no problems, even with some pretty massive fual comsumption under race conditions. (About 5 + litres / lap of the old Morwell Hillcimb track)

It's a modified 1600 one. Basically you pull the vacuum advance plate and can out and have the dizzy recurved. From memory I think it's 30° all in by about 3500rpm similar to the aircooled 009s. I'll have to check those figures.
