And this past weekend I attended DragWars2014. It was held at Tarlton International Raceway which is in our valley, South Africa.

Quite a number of VAGs attend this event. Quite possibly the largest drag racing event for the VAGs here in South Africa. Here are some pics...

And here is a video of a collection of runs taken from my friends in the day.

My best ended up being a 12.5 on the 400m with an exit speed of 175.6km/h. Runs also seem to be pretty consistent judging from my timeslip.

Was a great day and I really enjoyed it. Much quieter than last year, but that just meant I had more runs which meant more fun. I ran in full street trim. OEM interior, with spare wheel, etc. and I also ran with my everyday street Yokohama S-Drive tyres...

I am very happy with my results as I placed 3rd in the VAG all wheel drive class which had a total of 18 cars there for the day in that class. I reckon I could have done a bit better provided I had a pitcrew or at least someone to help spray ice water on the queue starting line. My intake temps were 58 degrees in the queue. When racing, it would drop to about 35 degrees even with meth, and would just start climbing back up again.

      Here is my timeslip:

And the results where I placed 3rd for my class:

        Some updates...

My R went in to the local bodyshop again.

Ordered a badgeless grille and GeCleant rear wiper delete grommet.

As I did not want to use the plastic insert notch filler cause it looked cheap and tacky, then sourced a second hand OEM bonnet and had the notch welded and filled by our local bodyshop...

They swopped the bonnet and fitted my badgeless grille. So I get to store my OEM bonnet and grille away.

The rear wiper was replaced with the GeCleant glass grommet and car was also given a full detail.

          Looking good as always.

12.5 for the 1/4 mile is pretty good for a daily driver. I bet you have a smile every time you drive.

          Cheers

And I've been having some fun or only getting the time to really enjoy her now...

Took her for some rolling runs against my friend's cars:

              My Stage 2+ R vs a Stage 2 Focus ST250 (1st 2 runs) The other runs are the Stage 2 ST250 taking on a stock ST250.

              Here's the video runs...

I then had her valeted completely again. Shines like a bottle again...

When you get paid do you put some aside for food, some for drinks and a big pile for valet services?

Lol!! Only for valet products. I clean and valet my car myself. Other places will just scratch and swirl the paint finish!

                          Small updates...

Received necessary carrier nuts for my alloy spindle and arms installation...

Rest of my parts are lying with a buddy of mine in JHB which is quite a drive away. So fitment will take place soon once I have finalized everything...

And then onto some DSG cooling upgrade time... Ordered this cooler that is fitted on the Mk7s as stock. It's a bolt on cooler with a slightly bigger core compared to the mk6's cooler as seen in the pics.

I don't have DSG heating issues and I'm only on 24k mileage but as most of you know, I like building my car to be reliable and healthy and not just fast. This will be installed along with a DSG oil change followed by a calibration for good measure. I may even hold onto the cooler and attempt fitment with some upgraded clutches along with the service. Time will tell.

Received this via Experience Performance which are also our local HPA dealers here in SA...

                            HPA Gen4 Programmable Haldex Controller

Opted for the wired remote to switch between modes. The modes are actually Eco, Stock and Race, although the label indicates Sport.

                            Should be fitted soon...

                              Updates...

And today my one buddy that works at Kia opted to help me fit my HPA Haldex controller after work today...

The Haldex controller really was such an easy job to install. Looks just like the stock one when installed. The tricky part is laying the wired remote through to the console!

Luckily with DIYs across the web, stripping was made 'fairly' easily.

The wired remote the goes behind the console. Nice HPA logo on the side that one will sadly never see.

And the rear and centre console stripping section. Truly not for the faint hearted!!

The end result. Placed right where I want it!

We finished up late and I haven't really tested it yet. I will be testing it for sure on the strip this coming weekend. In 'Race' mode it does almost feel like the rear wants to step out on launch. And through some bends when exiting, it really feels completely different too! Must say it comes very close to how my old man's RWD Mercs put the power down in a bend. I would love to test this on a proper race track some day!!
