        • Bit of an update.
Got the engine harness on the other day. Just one or two plugs from the old loom left to put together. Also mocked up the breather tubes etc for the boost control system. Just two broken pipes to replace.

While I was installling the QPE harness, I noticed this temp sensor which runs to the turbo. Not sure what its exact function is. The plug for it was part of the other loom that is not needed for this conversion but I cut the wire not thinking, and I'm hoping there will be no problem without it.
I removed it from under the intake manifold to install the MAP sensor in its place.

I have another question if anyone can help: The diverter valve has that small tube coming out the top which normally connects to the N249. But all of that throttle purge/emissions/evap stuff is being deleted so the small tube now has nowhere to go! Can I blank off the little nozzle, leave it open, or run a tube somewhere else?

          Here's the wiring going on

Still need to get hold of an 02A starter and mk2 G60 radiator. ANYONE????

          Cheers

          • The little nozzle on top of the diverter valve connects to a vacuum hose from the inlet manifold so that excess air can be dumped when you lift you foot of the accelerator pedal.

            • Well, the last week or so I've been pushing the tough-as-nails temporary Cordoba runner to the limit with a leaky radiator and I let it get very hot a couple of times.
Today I paid the ultimate price. On the way down to roccodingo's to get some bits for the 20vt I started hearing what initially sounded like loud pinging as i was going thru the tunnel. I thought "oh it's just that semi loose fan cowling rattling". Then it got louder. "oh its pinging coz its a bit hot" - no its actually ok temp wise. Hmmm...

Got down to orrong rd and it was evident something serious was letting go as there seemed to be a rocking chair in a tumble dryer under the bonnet, and I was losing power.

Made it to the lights about 2mins from Grants place but they were red, and the racket from the engine ground to a smoking halt!

Towed it down the road and now I'm driving Grants son's old mk1. Thanks Grant, you're a champ!!

But thats about $1300 down the tube and a major PITA.

Oh well, I figure i can spend more money and time changing the engine, or just hurry up and finish the mk2.

              SIGH...

              • Hopefully the red POS got you home in one piece without itself detonating ( its in line for dismemberment, rotted beyond repair..) We still need to get a starter motor yet !!

OK, all the closet hoarders of O2A starters come out with the goods !!!
                Lots of MK 1 Scirocco's...

If it aint a MK 1 then it must be a donor car ??

                Cheers,
                Grant...

Yea I could use the stock GTI Aus radiator. It's the same size as the g60 one (675mm), BUT, the outlets are on the driver's side which just makes the top hose fitting a very tight squeeze across the manifold.

You running the QPEng? How is your mapping working out?

                            • Yer its tight I would agree but it works I have alloy cross pipe which looks ok so why not, brain can sell you a RAD for 140 brand new, however, i dont know whether a mk2 rad fan is upto the cooling?.

I hear mixed things about the peng, I sent matt my agu map cos his was not so good and mine worked better so that was odd.

Im running their 28rs map and its not bad, i did change the timing cos it had a redonk hole in it, and i know it could be leaned out but apart from that its been fine mate.

Jon from qpeng is your man he is really healpfull FYI you need master access to do a tune so ill PM you that.
