  • VW racecar R32-Some advice!

Hi Gentlemen, I need advice about which way to go! To start with i own a 1954 vw sportsedan tube chassis beetle.I also own a 04R32 for the past 7months and really have enjoyed driving it.Ive been that impress with it that iam going to do a mid mount R32 or VR6 6 speed conversion in my vw racecar.....The prob i have that i cant find a suitable r32 motor!.....Heres the dilema i have.....Is a VR6 going to satisfy me as good as a R32motor?.....I have supersprinted the r32 golf and was over the hill with it.Would i be going backwards for the satisfaction of a r32 to a VR6......need help on this one gentlemen!.......WAT DO YOU ALL RECKON?

Just pick either one and chuck a turbo on it.

R32 motor has 50 hp over even the 2.9 VR6. That would be a fair sacrifice for the same work in fitting. 2.8VR6 is 174.

The 4 motion engine is basically a small bore R32 motor and has 204hp in std form.

I would hang on for the R32 and do the job once, unless you stuck some forced induction on the VR6 motor for some cheap hp.

Turbo is next step! but n/a i want to play with first.I just pulled a ej20t subie out of the vw.Thats because the R32 impressed me that much the subie wouldnt be a match for responsive power.

No probs and if you want to throw money at the NA engine you could chip it too. Assuming you plan to use VW injection etc.

not much chance of finding an r32 engine over here. best import one from UK or germany. or if you want low budge watch the auctions for a month or two and youll find a vr6 for not much at all. but why put all that work into a beetle when you could put it into an mk2

probably 4 or 5k (aussie dollars) to buy it then whatever it costs to ship, i dont know how much that is though. theres lots of auctions that sell the complete running gear of wrecked r32's for the 5000euro price range.

only two big ones in aus

Wide range of car auctions in Australia. Buy, sell used cars, trucks, trailers, government cars, damaged cars, machinery, oil and gas equipment at Pickles.

Buying or selling, Manheim has everything you need under one roof. Auctions across Australia feature used cars, government cars, damaged cars, trucks, machinery & motorcycles.

you can bid online on both of them and its really quite easy. if you have an abn its much easier to organise accounts with them, otherwise you'll have to pay bonds (around 500 i think) before you can bid online. i havnt ever witnessed a vr6 go at auction but my guess is they would go around the 1 or 1.5k mark (for the whole car)

Speak to Sebastian Najder who used to work on the VW R32 race cars bug_racer@yahoo.com he knows the guy who still owns the race cars and they have one of the race cars for $25K or a crate R32 engine for sale which I think they want about $5K for.

                            Cheers Al
