A lesser bloke like me! Haha.

You've got balls, Wade. Big ups for taking on a car so far gone.

          Haha. Golf balls?

It may simply be naivety/stupidity, but i'll see what i can do with it. I'm not in a hurry so i'll tackle it in stages and do it right.

I've still got a few finishing touches to do on the mk2 yet...

Not much happening. Just a few genuine NOS bits coming in and i've started stripping down the EV head for a rebuild.
I'm basically waiting to cut up the donor car at Grants place do replace the rusty body sections.

Have you thought about whole body dipping and electrophoresis coating instead?

Put in a big effort this weekend. Chopped up the 1/2 GTI that Grant had and hired a ute to get the sections home.
Then i set about the butchering process.
There is a lot of rust in some really annoying nooks & crannies. Its going to be a tricky repair process

the new heat gun... and results

And then trying to figure out where was best to cut these bastard joined front sections around the firewall/wheel arches/a-pillars. There were a few apprehensive moments, but i got there in the end...

I didnt dremel grind all the spot welds as drilling was much quicker, but the sparks looked cool n stuff.

This is pretty much it before i cleaned up today. I was aiming to get the suspension out too as its verge collection time, but i'm off to QLD for 10 days and had to go pack. Flying out tonight.

Will have to finish off when i get back.

                      Focker, out.

IF you've got that much skill, commitment and motivation to pull this off (and I'm not doubting you do)
you DESERVE a way better shell than this to work on!
the time saved body work can be spent on
maybe a mid mounted engine the options are endless and a lot more fun i would think as it is a dreadfully long road to go down before you get to high filling and painting at which point you still only have a ((patched up golf))
Were all seriously admiring your effort that for sure! Good Luck !

hey mate, i was sort of thinking the same thing? i'm sure you could find a better condition shell which doesn't need to be cut into 100 pieces? as mentioned above, takes a lot of effort/skill/commitment to pull off what you're doing.

                              cheers
