Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

How bad is this do you guys think ? Should I keep going.

Rust, rust, rust i hate rust.

Lucky for you it looks like surface rust like the guys on the forum said.

I can get my hands on the ultimate rust killer. My father gets it from the railways and is not available for retail. Ill see if I can get some if your interested. I gave some to a mate in my club for his kombi camper and he loved the stuff.

These are places you've really got to seal in the engine bay.

Right at the firewall & down to the where the brake pipe's enter the cabin.

I'm sure a lot of people here has removed their Mk1 hatch, but I spend half an hour and still can not decide if i need to cut this wire in order to remove the hatch. Any idea ??

POR15 at the rear, prime all vertical panel before new black top coat. The car will be black at the end.

Looking Good Eric, Did you get the bootlid off? You need to cut the wire , but leave enough, so that you can rejoin.

You could pull the wire out of the hatch but make sure you pull some string through as you remove the wire so you can get it back in.

I can see the wire run all the way to the fuse box, cutting it could be easier.

What are these filling material ?

cleaning the bonnet at the moment and notice these filling material between the skin and the frame, anyone what are they ?
They are dry and hard so I suppose I'll remove them all. After I repaint should I worry to refill them ? I think they are not just plastic filler cos it has to be heat resistent.
Ideally I should separate the skin and frame to properly clean up, but I don't know how to weld and don't have money to pay for smash repairer

                      Soundproofing

Some leftover for doors and quarter panel

                      New carpet

Will take some break this weekend before cleaning up the shell .

It's probably seam sealer. Ask your local panel beating supply shop. I got some for a Beetle I'm restoring from the Body Shop.(No - not Anita Rod****'s franchise - the panel beating supply chain.)

looking good. I would have liked to have POR'ed all the underside and inside of my car, but that will have to wait for one day when I can give her a full re build

                                WHOA!!!!!!!

Don't remove all the seam sealer!!!!! n:

IF you remove it all, it's VERY difficult to get the bonnet flat again!

You really should leave that to a smash repairer. It might cost you a couple of hundred, but it'll be worth it. Otherwise you bonnet will end up looking like the surf at manly!
