      • Thanks guys.

        Added another 10kw today:

Looking for a battery now, what can you guys recommend? And where can I buy it online.

        Thanks

        • Would this suit?

          Buddy Club Racing Spec Battery

Otherwise I might just go down to Battery World with my 10% off card

          • I'm using a century DIN53LMF, 500CCA (aim for 400 CCA or higher) and its great.
It did require a tiny bit of modding to the battery clamp.

If you've got time, upgrade your battery cabling while your at it (I thinks battery world can make cables for you too?)

If you plan to use the stock MK2 battery clamp set-up, I don't believe that battery in the link would work because there is no 'ridge' at the base of the battery to clamp onto. Unless you'll be using an aftermarket set-up.

Ok cool I'll check out something like that. And also I've already got an aftermarket cradle in there, the original rusted out

And as soon as I get Recaro/Sparco fronts, you can have these.

              • I wouldn't worry too much abut a race spec battery at this stage.

Save your money and put it towards track time, you'll go faster for the same amount invested.

Main thing with batteries is that they have to be very securely mounted and the positive terminal must be covered.

The scrutineers will always tug on the battery and if there's any movement at all you won't be racing that day.

I'd just grab a correct sized battery for your car from super cheap or the like, there's not a lot to be gained form any sort of upgrade.

Sounds like a plan. I didn't know about the terminal cover and test thing, thanks for that, I'll make sure it's all secure.

Jmac came around to do the timing belt and tensioner - that thing was effed apparently, so good thing I had it cleared up.

Also got a new battery, a basic one from the local, the guy said I could run a slightly smaller one for what I needed. He also gave me a terminal cover which clipped on, and my mate is making up a simple metal strip to tie the battery down to the battery tray.

Putting together an order from German Auto Parts too, few things like new brake lines and some hoses, coolant sensor, on Jmac's recommendation. I'll take a look at what else they have that I need too so I can get it all at once.

                  • Ok so the plan for 2012:

                    - Get it road worthied and rego'd
                    - Drive it around to run it in
                    - Take it to QR before the end of the year

In order to do that, I need to complete the following:

                    - Replace all hoses, brake lines, a few sensors, etc as recommended (all on its way from GAP)
                    - Fix the lights so they all work
                    - Get it mod plated as a 2 seater
                    - Get it road worthied - need a recommendation for someone to do this please

All pretty easy right I hate waiting for parts in the mail! I've really enjoyed working on the car so far, let's hope 2012 is kind to us both.

                        Sounding good

May I ask, did you go for the standard or braided steel brake hoses from GAP?
Mine are in need of replacement too.

                          • I think the engine is finally all sorted Though there's probably heaps of hidden stuff still to do.

                            Replaced all the coolant pipes
                            Coolant sensors
Cleaned and painted the rocker cover
                            New rocker cover gasket
                            New PCV valve
                            New coolant tank

                            The money shot:

Nice clean rocker cover and new gasket:
