Didn't have much time today unfortunately, but managed to remove the rear struts, and set up the new ones to go in, however the top nuts were a different size, so will have to get new ones of those before the rears can go in.

The front top bolt needs a rattle gun to remove, because we didn't have vise grips to hold the strut to stop it turning. So borrowing one in two weeks.

The brakes were filthy, so gradually cleaning them. New ignition leads are in, however the battery is flat.

    How she stands now.

    Rears removed.

Looking very nice and clean under the back seat guys. Those FKs should go alright too. Keep the updates coming.

Another thing, I have decided to update the first post with every dollar I spend on this project.

So often I see builds where people either don't want to say how much they've spent or can't remember! I would like to keep tabs on it all and thought it might be useful for people to get an idea as well.

I also would like to see if I can get it track ready and road registered for under $5k, or the same cost of an intake/tune/exhaust on a mk5 GTI or similar

          Yesterday's progress:
          • Changed oil and filter.
          • Flushed coolant and replaced.
          • Changed fuel filter.
          • Put new front brakes together, but didn't install.
          • Grinded a few dead bolts off the rear brakes and pulled off the old discs/pads.

I also picked up new nuts for the top of the rear struts, as the old ones wouldn't fit over the new strut thread.

Really annoyed at how many stuck bolts we are coming across, pretty much every single one needs to soak in wd40 for an hour before we can have a crack at it. Gets my little muscles working!

Had a little bit of spare time today so got the rear struts in.

Here's a pic of the front brakes, I got some brake cleaner so will go over them with that before installing.

And a mouse trap set up here and in the airbox to get that bastard before he starts chewing wires.

Also a question re: wheel bearings, because it's got a mk3 front setup, do I get mk3 bearings?

What brand/make are the front rotors?

depend on what hubs your using mate. If the hubs are still mk2 items then you would use mk2 bearings. It will not matter the bearings which discs or calipers you use

They're mk3 hubs, so mk3 bearings it is then!

                          I'm confused.
There's a 5 door polo in flash red in one shot, and in another it's got Denvers.
You're not in South Africa, so is it just a case of upgraded wheels?

Ya it's my mate's Polo Match, it had coilovers and denvers, but he has since brought it back to stock so he can sell it. It was a really nice setup with the drop/wheels though.

Sorry, I've been flat out at work and my weekends are very precious.

The new wheel bearings came, and are sitting there in their box. I've been looking around for some replacement bolts (for the ones we threaded on the rears) however all the nuts n bolts shops are closed on weekends!!!

So I'll have to visit one in my lunch break next week.
