heres where things got interesting, buttoned everything off and fired it up seemed to be all good, took it up the road and it was wofle ,down of boost something major, and on inspection the dv was leaking all the time(which i think may have been due to the wd40 i spray on the ports to mount the hoses???), drove it home(with boost peaking at 8odd psi) after promising the wife it was going to be a 3 hour session , which turned into 8 odd, still down on power and real crap.then pop bang, the throttle body pipe had come loose, it was way too short and with the engine rocking there was no give anywhere.Replumbed the silicone coupler on the side of the road in the dark and rain, and limped home pissed and thinking what a waste and questioning why i had to start modifing such a nice convenient car.in the mean time i had spent an hour shaving the bumper and cooler to get it to fit, something i checked earlier but not to the full bolt down stage, was really loosing it now, thinking it was never going to fit.
Needed to source a new coupler and believe it not got one locally(which is blue but will be black soon).with a fresh head limped back out to work, blew the pipe again pulling into work, when i looked at it it was never going to work with such a small pipe, fitted the new coupler , and trimmed the bumper a little more a presto the sun started shining.
the dv seemed to not be leaking so much and i even peaked boost at around 16psi down from 19odd with the old setup.
it works
wondering if the ecu will adapt further to the new condensed air, and hopefully my dv stops leaking, seems a fair lag now on boost i guess having to push it further and through larger pipes is the reason for that, time for a bigger turbo me thinks.it amazing to feel the difference in pipe temp from the inlet to the outlet, astonishing, the oulet is almost chilled cold, this may be as the air takes 2 passes in the cooler too.
You might not have a boost leak, the larger volume of air in the pipes and core has a sort of dampening effect which will smooth out any small peaks that you might have spotted on a guage. These ECUs have no feedback either, no map sensor, so its just a wastegate duty cycle (as determined by the value at the point in the table) combined with a slight overboost function that determines what the wastegate is doing and therefore boost pressure. You'll be able to run more timing now too which can mask some of the lag down low but the turbo is now a tiny hairdryer up top.....
I was going to ask if you were keeping the core silver or going stealth black - looks like you went half way . The next car I do will have an all black core just to keep things a bit hidden. My other car is a bit too obvious core size is nuts but it performs very well
I can see a gearbox, clutch, turbo and fuel system on the cards
Man, for an unmodified car, it's pretty customized! I love it though, and I'd love to do what you do, but hey...someone's gotta keep all these cars clean!
