  • rebuild a vr6

Has anyone rebuilt a vr6 in NSW...or anywhere in Australia and you have had a good experience ?

I am just trying to determine whether my car is a likely moneypit or worth preservation...

Its currently unlicensed in NSW, needs body work and respray, engine gearbox need work...needs new suspension and brakes...drooping headliner and torn leather on drivers seat...and non working AC...leaking power steering

other than that its a blast to drive and I transported it from Perth to Sydney in January when it was licensed...did the trip in three days...no problems

Car in question: mkiii vr6 colour concept, sitting on bbs RCs and H&R cup kit suspension (too low for crappy Sydney roads)

Well it does sound like a lot of work to be honest, but to save a colour concept would be grand! Perhaps fix the engine, sell it on so the next person can do the box, sell it on so the next person can do the paint, sell it on and the next person can do the interior! Then maybe you can buy it back after it's all done for cheaper than doing it all yourself!

      What's it look like now?

A good condition VR6 is a sub $10k car these days - but a colour concept may well be worth saving due to the rarity (and the bragging rights of having saved it!).
      Nothing to see here...

well a vr6 wreck even a colour concept isnt worth more than a couple of grand so if u sell it ur not gonna get much for it. if u have the time, dont mind spending the money then fix it urself. im enjoying my project car even tho its stretched out for a long time. i have prob spent too much on my car but its all water off the ducks back when i eventually drive it. there are also plenty of ppl in syd if u need a hand or advice with stuff

ps: sell me that cup kit!

All VR6s are moneypits. I`m looking for a donor car for my next 2 door Vr6 project if you want to sell. Colour concept seats fold forward as standard so they would be the grouse.

A colour concept is worth saving!! If you dont agree, sell it on so somebody can give it the TLC it deserves.

              Yep Loads of work...

Hopefully, I can do most of it myself

First thing, get the sucker licensed...so I can sell the wrp10 - insurance on wrx is an absolute rort

Some work I will have to shop out to a good workshop...engine rebuild...body work...

If I was still in Perth - I wouldn't hesitate getting Joe at Golfwagen to rebuild the engine...

In Sydney, I am going to talk to Seb at EuroAutomotive...when I can get some time off work...

If anyone has any other suggestions; they would be welcome...just so I can get an idea of the cost involved.

But clutch and lsd I can do while the engine is getting rebuilt...gearbox rebuild I will shop out as i want to get a 6th gear fitted.

replace power steering pump and fit some Wilwoods to replace the stock brakes...I can do

fit coilovers to give the vr6 more ground clearance...I should be able to do this myself...

headliner and some replacement leather for drivers seat...I can do to

dynamat the floor, doors and roof...fix door rattles and dodgy rear electric winders...I can do

fix car audio...I can def do this myself (used to be my summer job)

I will be sacrificing my wrx for this rebuild but I think its worth it...they use about the same amount of fuel, I think the vr6 handles better and is faster...hell of a lot cheaper to insure

So, any good engine rebuilders here or do I have to order an engine from overseas ?

              pics for clicks

When i redo the exterior I am going to revert the colour coded rub strips and bumpers and mirrors...to black.

Nice look back in the day but too much yellow for me now...

Also, If I changed the colour will it be a bad move ?

I like the graphite blue of the new gti's or even the uber rare dusty mauve from mkiii's...north american market only ?

this would require the interior to be re-upholstered to match the exterior...

Sorry to post a link to another forum...but those interested can see the colour here...nice build too

Nice finish on the engine and drivetrain and a super color!

I am pretty sure it will happen

Already have wifey onside...and a decent budget to start with

Seriously, though losing the wrx is a smart move...it was an easy decision to make as the insurance is killing me and I don't really like it...as a daily driver...on weekends it can be fun!

A 6th gear kit is very expensive btw, the cheapest one is a group buy on clubgti which is 1300pounds exc shipping + taxes. The quaife kit is a whopping $5000USD exc shipping + taxes. If it was just good cruising final drive ur looking for i would suggest putting a tdi 5th gear in and putting in an lsd.

If u can do most things urself i would even take the motor apart and then send it to an engine builder to rebuild the head and port it so thatll even save u more money. The block u can take apart and send to get cleaned, honed etc.

GL with it, it sounds exciting!

A yellow colour concept... where was that when I was looking for mine. If nothing else I want to see it and drool over it

I would almost consider selling mine and taking that one off your hands...

If it has an engine or heartbeat it's going to cost you.
