  • yea, I was thinking hot rod shop too.

It's not so much the chrome that needs to be re-done, but it'd be so nice if they were straight!

hot rod shop was pretty high on my list, I'll also have to look around, i'm sure there will be some place that does bumpers and chrome trims and etc.

Got the windscreen in today with James. took us a while, but we got it in the end. FYI start the cord ends from the middle top, works out easier that way. Also picked up some WB & other stuff. hopefully it'lll be nearly ready for RWC by the end of the weekend.

            • So. after spending a few days fiddling around with driveshafts and CV's and like, i've almost got everything back together

got the wheels bearings pressed in this arvo, and the new CV boots were down yesterday. should be holding it's own weight again soon, i'm aiming to take it to roadworthy next week.

pics to come when i charge the battery's!

              • good news! By doing these things you wont have an issue and at its age they are common problems.
i absolutely love how the car has turned out so clean the white is such an elegant colour.

any plans on changing the wheels you always have steelies make this one different thats all its missing now

                • Yea, I got some plans for some wheels.

not sure I'll have them before nats, which is a bit dissappointing, but oh well. not sure how it'll be come nats, have to see how everything goes.

I whacked the hubs in today, got it standing up on its own wieght again. Typical mk 1 though, fixed two things and found another 3 problems! Fitted up and bled the GTI brakes too. might need to re bleeed though. not quite hunky dory yet. and need to fix the alignment - bad!

                  • Set the wheel camber first, then do your toe adjustment... looking good bud.
                    Lots of MK 1 Scirocco's...

If it aint a MK 1 then it must be a donor car ??

                    Cheers,
                    Grant...

                          • found my shifter and fixed the alignment, sort of. The wheels don't 'sqwabble' or 'wander' but the steering wheel is still off centre, even though the car is going [almost perfectly] straight. Do I need to take off the wheel and centre it, or is that a big no no?

I've only got adjust tie rod on one side...hmm..

I've bit the bullet, and booked her in for roadworthy on thursday morning. only 24 days left, so i'm kinda pushing it! wish me luck.

also, the deisels been a bit hard starting of late. I'm thikning glow plugs are going, as it needs two cranks to get going. & blows a big plume of smoke once it kicks over. Any way to test the plugs easily or something else I should look for? thanks deisel geeks!

                              • check the glowplug fuse and the relay to see if uve got power. if yes, then im not sure of the correct way to test them but u can take them out and see if they heat up. once u take the bus bar off tho, you might as well replace them all as thats the toughest part of it all!!

edit: here we go found this
