      Yeah Shaneth,

we squeezed some more power out of it & have never had a drivetrain failure before. not 100% sure if it was purely power or partly age related (car has done well in excess of 245,000kms from new, on the original engine / gearbox / differential) and it was the factory sealed joint that tore apart (big 12mm bolts, high grade and it made a real mess - lifted the back of the car off the ground when it snapped).

Anyway, since we have to pull a fair bit apart to fix it, we can build our new stronger motor (rods) so we can run well over 400hp, also will do a limited slip front differential, and check out the rear differential as well! All I need now is the time......

Stones in the brakes at Stanthorpe Airport were a constant problem and required constant removal after each run. All the cars in the rally suffered this and the Mk5 only runs about 3 m/m of clearance between the front calipers and the 19 inch wheels. A few cars ran their tyres down to the canvass here and it was only the first day of the event and only lunchtime!!!

Damage to the lower bodywork was evident on most cars cars as well

Oh, and the two GTIs that went like clockwork all weekend!

                Good pics Andrew

Found one of me in the TT replacement MX5 substitute car. Bit of contrast going to a car that liked a bit of oversteer!

thanks to boost cruising & opticalnote.com for the pic!

Had a great weekend, thanks for coming up Andrew though I think they kept you busier than you wanted and thanks for the VW Watercooled decals.

The car was brilliant all weekend and didn't miss a beat though the driver could have been more switched on sometimes. Two red lights one at each of the different dragways and then a few wrong directions on the different motorkahnas put paid to a top 20 finish in drivers outright for me

Highlight of my weekend was passing Keith Weel in the V8 commodore around Morgan Park and QLD Raceway, he wasn't a happy camper after that happening to him twice. Ended up in 26th out of 47 in the drivers outright with one 4th quickest overall in reaction time at Morgan Park drags and one 9th quickest overall at Bill Norris Oval motorkahna. Not sure about the drivers handicap result as I was the only car in my class so have no idea how they came up with the results there.

Next up is the NSW round at the end of May and I hope to be down for that and it would be great to have a few NSW members enter as well.

                  Cheers Al
