It will be interesting to see if they can recover now at all with the loss of Alonso as well.

Sad about Kimi. dont know if he has a drive next year.
In a battle for out and out pace Kimi is the fastest guy bar none. However he is not the complete racer.
In my opinion since Schumi left Alonso has been and still is the best racer out there. His pace is good, he can put in consistent laps, he is good technically and he can develop a car.
Both Hamilton and Kimi fall down on many of these points (Kimi especially).
McLaren and Ferrari have both struggled with car development in recent times. With McLaren only just starting to recover now from poor/slow development since about mid last year.
The reason the McLaren was so dominant for the better part of last year was due to the development influence the year before from Alonso. Hamilton may get better as his career progresses and he gets more experience but Kimi just seems to have never been really interested or able to give good feedback.
My 2c on a number of things but yeah. It's a shame proper testing isn't allowed anymore.

i think alonso seems affected by a bit much emotion from time to time, though cant doubt his underlying talent.
the other problem with lack of testing is that if a drier (like massa) needs to be replaced part way through a season, the new guy may have had no real testing in a car and thats got to be dangerous2007 Audi RS4 with: APR ECU Upgrade; JHM Quick Shifter; Milltek Catback and Downpipes; KW V3 Coilovers; Argon Creative Carbon Fibre Splitters

DLR and Hamilton wore most of the testing duties in '07. With your logic, Renault should be winning multiple races next year should they get a half decent driverGhetto-Rennen

And as for your last comment about Renault, have a read of my last comment again. With the testing ban this will be quite difficult.

For those doubters of Alonso look at what he has managed to do with the Renault over the last two years. He has dragged what at best have been average cars with some serious design issues up towards the pointy end of the grid, ie. Renault have gotten much better results than they deserve.

BUT
If he's so fantastic, why was his rookie team mate able to beat him to second place in the championship in 2007 in equal machinery? Hamilton - 6 Pole positions, Alonso's 2...
This is a double world champion in a championship contending car being beaten by a guy in his first year of F1.
As for 2008, McLaren were stuck with development bans for 2008 after the '07 controversy, yet Lewis still won the championship. Giving Alonso credit for that is like giving Schumi the credit for Raikkonen's championship. Behind the driver there are another 100-odd staff making it all happen....the driver doesn't make the car.
And, really, I don't see anything overly spectacular that he's done to Renault over the last 2 years anyway...1 legitimate win in 2 years isn't exactly blowing anyone's skirt up...I'm more impressed by Vettel. The kid has won more races this year than Fernando with the same power plant behind him, and more races than Fernando over the last 2 years. Once again, another F1 rookie putting him to shame.
Alonso's good, but he's definitely not the best in the field. I remember when he was a hack rolling around in an inferior car just like guys like Sutil, was last year, Sutil is still in a relatively weak car but he's still pushing for points on a regular basis.Ghetto-Rennen

We'll have to agree to disagree on this one.
We'll see how we go next year I guess.

Seriously after Spa I think this is the second best circuit in F1. Silverstone has got to be third.
