  • Not A Gti To Be Found!!!

I've been watching the 12 hr Bathurst race and there's no

VW GTI'S in section D which is the hot hatch class. Surely VW should of been

flying the flag for the Best Performance Car under $60 grand for only the last

    3 consecutive years in Australia.

I feel better now thanks for reading!

    cheers,

    LUKE

Yup, no VW or Audi. Letting the side down. I`d also like to have seen an A4 Quattro in the 4wd class and maybe a V8 Audi to Give the Falcodores a run

Late post I know, but you're dreaming. That 130i has won championships and races against Kosi's MKv GTI and the 130i has been untouchable in its class at Bathurst.

The Mazda MPS3 would be a better match, but honestly, the MkV would get destroyed by the Searle 130i.

I have no idea about how they would go against the 130 in Australia.

                    Different rules / different classes.

Certainly in the US, the turbo cars are heavily restricted (power) and severely handicapped with weight as well. Not sure what the parity rules are here in Australia.

Good news is they have just won their first race - first professional victory for a VW in the US for over 25 years!

Wrong place to post this I suppose, but I've been hearing rumours of a 135i hatch coming in the not to distant future ..... now that would rule the hot hatch class .......

untill such time as my R20T arrives that is ........

Come on VW, hurry up with that R20T so we can get a few out there and competing ... and WINNING !!!!

It will be a weapon -

Just need to put it in it's right place:

6 cylinder twin turbo class for the 135i (maybe it would be up against GT2's?)

4 cylinder single turbo class for the R20 (but then they would handicap it because its AWD as well!)

The only thing most of you people dont understand is the cost of motorsport .

A 12 hour race would cost a fortune in just fuel and tyre , not to mention brake pads entry fee etc etc .

If enough people were willing to help out or raise money for sponsership Im sure I could persuade VW Australia to release an R32 for Bathurst . But without the financial backing and team player support its never going to happen .

                              LOL. Media right here.

R20T would be okay at Bathurst as the 12 hour has a $120k or so price cap.

Current class structure would pit the R20 against Sti and Evo in the performance AWD class. 135i would run against 370Z, FPV F6 , HSV R8 etc in the performance RWD class. If Morris and Searle drove it, game over!

It's a great event to attend. You can drive your car to the top of the mountain, park it against the fence and listen to commentary on the radio while watching the race on super screens.

Plus, the first hour or two has an awesome atmosphere.

Pic of mine from this year's race:

There's a hot hatch class that would suit the GTI, it's for 2WD cars only. 130i owns it.
