Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. • higher fuel consumption

When filling up last saturday night, with my usual BP ultimate at my usual store for the stupidly high usual price, I threw in 100mL of injector cleaner I got off my mechanic.

Since then, I've noticed my fuel consumption reading is up near the high 13's, sometimes down in the 12's too. Compare this to last week, average low 12's to even low 10/9's, and I've got myself one annoying little issue..

I thought to myself, surely it can't be this little amount of injector cleaner making the engine SO much cleaner that it gulps this much more fuel...can it? I'm just not sure if anything else has happened..Can someone shed some light onto this, if they've heard of/experienced similar things?

when was the last time you properly cleaned your injectors??

have you noticed better response with this higher fuel usage?

Is this the same mechanic that charged you like $500 extra for sitting on his ass and telling you fibs?

Lol it was the same mechanic who did my hose for $260, the only mechanic I've been to so far. It's a good injector cleaner, the grade they use in workshop so I could only use one third of the bottle. I think I have noticed more response, albeit very slight if at all. But it doesn't feel like it's using that much more fuel, cause I thought with such a jump I would have noticed it heaps.

Unfortunately I'm actually not sure when the injectors were cleaned last. I got her in December.

A higher RON fuel also works well to keep the injectors nice and clean...

What grade fuel do you use?

Lol but it's not much of a power increase, I don't think so anyway. I don't leadfoot it all the time either especially seeing as I just got my licence..

my fuel consumption on my new vr6 was at least 14+!! admittedly my foot was always to the floor.
your greatest point of fuel consumption is giving it stick on take off.

I dont see a issue here, you used injector clean, the injectors are now clean and your reaping the benefit.

                      A few points first:

                      - I run 100% BP Ultimate which I am very happy with.
                      - I drive like a bat out of hell most of the time.
                      - The car is very well maintanted otherwise with about 170,000km's on the engine.

Now lets talk some figures. I have kept a log of every time I filled up and the stats for each time I have traveled in my VR6.

                      - On average I do about 320km's before filling up, I don't like to let it get too low so I don't pick up the rubbish in the tank.
                      - My average over the 3,200km I have travelled is currently 11.99L/100km
                      - Best consumptions for a tank is 10.18L/100km
                      - Worst is 13.18L/100km

I tend to drive round town mostly with the ocasional trip keeping the average down.

I have seen numbers down round 8L/100km, but that is on the freeway at a nice even 110km/h. When I first bought mine I was asking about consumption and have seen quoted anywhere from 6-7L/100km up to 12-13L/100km. Unless you literally cruise up and down the freeway all the time, I think it's impossible to get 6-7. If your getting much under 12 I don't think you should be driving a VR6

                      Any more questions?

If anyone is interested I can upload a copy of the excel log sheet I use which covers:
Date, Odometer, KM Trav, Litres, L/100KM, Tot L, This Tank, Av L/100KM, Days, This Tank, Av KM/Day.

Makes more sense when you see it in real life and for me it's great since I have a smartphone and update it when I'm at the petrol station

If it has an engine or heartbeat it's going to cost you.

                          LOL guys, I dreeeeeam of getting 10 - 14.

My current drive is a modded 5.4L FPV GT-P. It typically only does suburban kms and I average 19L/100kms.

On the freeway, it drops to a remarkable instantanous of 7, but at the other end of the scale, when i'm enjoying myself, the instantaneous reading jumps
                          to 99.9
