Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

If yours is with DPF and 2007 year than you need:Castrol LL 3 5w-30.
Here is vw part no. VVGASER5075L
Or if it is before 2007 without DPF you must use Castrol LL2 0w-30 VW 506-01
      Performance Tunes from $850

Price has changed in SA, and so did oil - which has now VW label and no Castrol label, also it is made in Italy now and colour is different to
Which worries me, because if the Castrol made VW506.01 oil was causing some damage to R5 engines (and VW Australia was ordered by VW Germany to start buying 506.01 oil from European market), I was planning to keep my T5 for another 5 years or more. I hope that I’m wrong about AU made 506.01 oil qualities.

Dealer in SA wanted $95 for 5L and that was trade price he told me. Almost $30 more than for Castrol LL2.
I still have enough oil for 1 oil change in my T5. If I use it or not would depend from what was the reason for change of oil manufacturer by VW Australia.
I didn't take picture of the new oil container. A new oil had VW Long Life 2 506.01 on it and no Castrol sign or logo.
