After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

You need Castrol SLX Longlife 2, 0-30w. Trade price at dealer is $70.1st place Mk3 Standard 08 -
Price has changed in SA, and so did oil - which has now VW label and no Castrol label, also it is made in Italy now and colour is different toOriginally posted by 95vr6 View Post
Which worries me, because if the Castrol made VW506.01 oil was causing some damage to R5 engines (and VW Australia was ordered by VW Germany to start buying 506.01 oil from European market), I was planning to keep my T5 for another 5 years or more. I picked up 10l of oil from vw dealer for my 120k service, still the same oil i have been buying for 3 years. I still have enough oil for 1 oil change in my T5. If I use it or not would depend from what was the reason for change of oil manufacturer by VW Australia.
