There is not much of the differnce between VW504.00/507.00 approved oil, if any? At least to the engine.

          Hey guys,

I'm a noob to the VW scene and had a good read about all these Vw507 and Vw 504 oils. I had a look at the VW R32 oil guide provided with the car and it stated 504/502 and that confused the crap out of me..

Would i be able to run Liqui Moly TOP TEC 4200 | 5W-30 in my dec 06 mk5 r32? The previous owner 'apparently' changed the oil 2000km before I purchased it, but there is no supporting documentation and quite frankly I'm not comfortable with what kind of stuff he has put in there...Prior to that, he did it every 5,000km (which is stamped). I've read that changing oil so frequently is not required, but as mentioned I like to be comfortable that my car is running sweet! It doesn't have a hard life... I drive it on the weekends and it's done 800km since I bought it a month ago..hmm

Will introduce myself in the intro's thread.

          Thanks,

          Dan

LM TOPTEC 4200 is right oil for your car. The VW504.00 spec superseeds all other oils and can be use in all current VAG cars. I wouldn't trust the previous owner and would change the oil regardless. I change oil in all our cars every 6 months or 7500km whichever comes first. It doesn't send me broke and I know that if I would want to keep my car for loooong time I have a better chance than with the oil changes every 12months.

I wouldn't think so either, since performance as a variable can be eliminated, due to VW's in-house oil standards and approval procedures.

Hence, that gives you the freedom to direct your money to your lubricant manufacturer of choice.

EDIT - heh, unless of course, your lubricant manufacturer of choice doesn't make 504/507 oils.

Thanks for the response Transporter. He also told me he did the Haldex filter himself.. Apparently it's about 500 buck he told me. Going from a 94 Civic to a Golf, I'm not sure what to expect and whether I should get it checked out.

So what is the preference? Penrite or Lm Toptec? Both around the same price, but if anyone prefers one over the other, would love to hear about it.

As Diesel_vert said, it's pretty much your choice. But if you couldn't make a decission, then go with LM.

Sounds good. I will grab that. While I'm at it, any preferences for coolants? Did a quick search, but nothing really popped up...

The VW coolant is not expensive, so don't get tempted to use something else that will most likely corrode or cause leaks in the cooling system. Change the coolant in 4th or 5th year and then every 2-3 years.
