Well their product is not good enough for many VW TDI applications, so I rather use the highest quality oil especially if there is not much difference in the price. Be every careful what oils do you use, since money you save now, doesn’t have to be enough for paying the repairs later.

Directly from Nulon website lube guide:

See limitations at the end of the guide.

    Recomended lubes for:
    GT Sport 2.0L TDI:
If fitted with DPF refer to dealer,,,,? GOLF GT SPORT 2.0L TDI has DPF

GOLF 2.0L TDI Not for vehicle with DPF
They are showing Nulon 5W30 long life which is not for long life regime and what is more important it doesn’t say VW Approved.

Basically their 5W40 Diesel and Petrol oil was approved for VW505.00 and VW505.01 only and not 5W30. Only this oil say "Approved by VW".
    I didn’t find any Nulon oil with VW504.00 VW507.00

This is what VW uses for their 507.00 specification oil in the dealer workshops.

VW dealer in Adelaide is selling only the imported oil in VW labeled containers and it doesn't mention what oil company is making oil for them. I'm getting suspicious that it could be for the reason that oils from Castrol and other oil companies in OZ were not good enough and VW HQ decided to take full control and supply the oil to the dealers.

Errr.. More likely if they label it VW and do not share where the product came from, they can charge more for it and gain a higher profit margin.

Castrol makes some of the best oils in the world. VW recommends Castrol.

Well actually the label says "Made in Germany".
In Europe VW supply oil to dealers unlike here - they can buy whatever.
Oils made in OZ are not as good as EU oils. IMO. Anybody is welcome to disagree.

I've mentioned this in a previous thread, but there is Mobil 1 ESP available from Mobil distributors, bought two 20L bottles so far in the time I've had my car, and it's a 504.00/507.00 oil, absolutely awesome, drive it hard, done 130000km, still eating nothing... and amazingly aussie made (probably melbourne)

I don't see anywhere on my 20L oil drums that it would be made in Australia.
Do you have on your drums Made in Australia?

Mobil has only one Lube Refinery in Australia. I used to work in the Mobil Lube Refinery at Port Stanvac in South Australia.
The plant has been shutdown for several years and never made any synthetic oils.

So, all the Mobil synthetic oils are imported than and probably made in France.
                    That's good.
                    Thanks for that info.

                      Penrite VW 504/507 equivalent

For anyone still having any trouble, Penrite Enviro+ 5W-30 is VW approved against VW 504.00/507.00 and also refers to VW 505.01 and MB 229.51. About $65 for 5 litres at my local auto shop, Hills Automen at Hahndorf. Penrite is an Australian made oil.

Well, that Enviro+ you have on mind is actually full import. But othervise, most of Penrite oils are made in OZ.
