Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

  • Paint Protection & Tinting

    Hey Guys,

I just bought a new Golf R (my first VW!) and turned down protection and tinting package they tried to push on me ($3500...), largely on the basis of advice from this forum.

I was wondering if anyone could recommend a good place to get the tinting done and (maybe) the paint protection applied in Brisbane?

Dealer prices for these items have about a 200-300% markup - you did the right thing to turn them down.

You will be able to get your windows tinted for around $300 (if you have a sunroof you might want to consider getting the sunroof tinted too). Paint protection varies in cost from one brand to another - personally i think its rubbish but i wash my cars every 7-10 days and enjoy polishing and waxing them.

I can't speak highly enough of Opticoat. Contact Jason from Superfresh Detailing.

Just placed an order for a 40 years GTI and need to get the front windows tinted as I thought $495 from the dealer for the two front windows was a tad extortionate, can anyone recommend a good tinting place around Rydalmere or eastern suburbs Sydney?

They may not need it as the two fronts have a different tint rating to the others. Most States dont allow them as darks as rears.
