Hi Carlbevo,
Not sure what Mk6 you have, but most of the 'bright trim' on window & roof rails (wagon?) is actually anodised aluminium, with the anodised coat extremely thin and easily scratched (they don't make them like they used to ...)
VW manual says not to use any polish at all on anodised parts, just wash off any grit and then wipe over(very) carefully with lots of water and mild soap/detergent.
Autosol makes a very good special anodised aluminium polish which will remove minor marks/stains, but use only very carefully with a clean damp soft cloth after the bright trim has been washed/wiped over thoroughly to remove any dirt/grit.
Hope this helps ...

I just purchased a 2011 passat wagon, and the window trims all have badly stained/etch marks...
Tried a few cutting compound polishes by hand and no luck...
I've heard WD40 works well in the short term...
Curious to see if anyone has any magic fixes also

Check with Detail Central before purchasing though, as I'm not sure what material the Passat trims are made of. And as always, test it on an inconspicuous area first.08 Golf GTI - SOLD
