  • Detailing or new paintjob required?

I'd written a whole post here and then it vanished while trying to attach some images.

I have some nasty clouding/swirls/something on the bonnet and roof of my Bora. Do you think I need a detailer or a new paint job/clear coat?

It definitely needs some TLC one way or another.

Looks like your clear coat is very thin / non existent and the car has been washed with brushes or something else that is not paint friendly (something abrasive).

My sensible answer is that it can probably be temporarily hidden but ultimately will need painting

I must admit it looks far worse in the photos than it does in person - not that it's good. The swirls are obvious up close. There's no cracking anywhere like I've seen in other clearcoat failure photos.

Thanks brad. I haven't taken it anywhere yet because I'm sure a paint shop will tell me it definitely needs a paint job, and a detailing place will tell me they can easily restore it.
