Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

  • MK6 GTI Leather seat - Foam wear / shifting seat

    Hi all,

My Mk6 GTI's driver side seat seems to have some foam rubbing/wearing that is then going on to the floor.

On top that, the front right corner (where i suspect the foam is coming from) feel ever so slightly unstable when I brake firmly or take a corner (I can feel it lift and go back down slightly).

Does any one know what the source of the foam rubbing off would be and what could be done about it?
It's only started recently and i do not want to leave it to get any worse.

Pictures below probably explain slightly better:

The small foam pieces below the front right side of the drivers seat.

Photos directly underneath the foam shavings of the underside of the seat:

There is nothing obvious there that I can see, so appreciate any advice.

Hi mate. Ive seen this on golf and beetle. Usually 3 door. Its the back rest foam thats falling apart and its actually half way up the outside of the seat where the airbag is. The foam comes away around the airbag and drops little bits on the floor. You would sware it was the seat base but no its the backrest foam!

G'day mate, appreciate the feedback. Interesting that the back would be wearing and running all the way down. Is there a way to repair this beyond getting a new seat?
Also, any ideas why the seat itself might have a bit of diagonal rock when accelerating? Could it just be that the bolts need to be tightened?

Not sure on movement but you can order the foam and replace it. Need to remove seat and seat cover material to fit the foam.

Take your wallet out of your back pocket. Usual reason for edge wear on seats.

Thanks for the feedback guys, interestingly enough I don't put my wallet in the back pocket!

I'll take a look to see if any of the local trim guys can fix the foam wear, but may have to talk to VW about the seat movement then.

Wallets are usually seat base covering wear.
