  • small splash guard things...

hey guys, im puzzled.. im after these splash guards iv seen in some photos, they go on the front fenders to prevent dirt, grime, tar from flicking up onto the driver/passenger door.. especially for guys with decent sized wheels. there small and discrete and only little strips that stick out a little from the actually fenders.. and ill clear up that there not classic splash guards/mud guards.

does anyone know what im refering too?
can anyone point me in the right direction to get them...

    cheers friends

    Jono

Generally these are part of the Sports Pack, I had these on one of my previous Passat's with the 18" Chicago Wheels.
I was under the impression that it was to do with the width of the tyres and how they protrude from the side of the body and due to ADR's they required these to enable them to still be within the required limits.

Are we talking about the same thing here. The tarmac engineering ones appear to be just small "mud flaps" however I am talking about the small black plastic extensions that protrude from the wheel arch area, not the lower mud flap area.

They're used on the Golf R so that the guard is extended enough to make the fitting of the optional 19" wheels legal so they don't extend beyond the guards. They're nothing to do with splash protection as far as I know.

Info and pics below are showing these little extensions on a Golf R, but i assume this is what the OP is trying to explain.

                Bold-Sport.com :: Golf R Plastic guard/ Fender extensions - Set of 4

                Part Numbers:

                Drivers Side Front/Front Right: 5K0807824B
                Passenger Side Front/Front Left: 5K0807823B

                Drivers Side Rear/Rear Right: 5K0807834
                Passenger Side Rear/Rear Left: 5K0807833

I lost my driver side rear/rear right one (Part # 5K0807834) and ordered a new one through VW for $44. So they are not cheap.

Some random photos from the interwebs to be clear on what parts I am talking about:

Well thats good to know aswell ope, i was refering to the ones on tarmac, the mini mud flaps!!! but now that we've been discussing these other parts that go with the Golf R 19" wheels, ill probs need those as well cause of my 18x8.5 wheels.

cheers again, got more gains out of this thread!

                    regards,

yes that is correct - only the Golf R's with the optional 19" wheels have these little plastic guard extensions front and rear. If the car is not optioned with the 19" wheels (standard rims are 18" in the same shape/style) then the car will not have the plastic extensions fitted.

As for the Tarmac mini mudflaps, i got a set of these recently. For my liking they stick out too far from the guards and ruin the lines of the car, so i drilled new mounting holes on mine to raise them up a little and pull them in a little. So now they stick out about 1.5cm from the guard, and hang down underneath the side skirt about 5cm. They most likely wont do as good of a job preventing stone chips now, but they do look a lot more discreet (basically unnoticeable).

you can buy Golf mudspats on Aliexpress & ebay for about $15-$25/set (f&R). There are 2 types - a short & long. maybe they suit what you are after?
