Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. • Window Tint

    Hi hi,

I want to get my tint lightened. It's too bloody dark! I cant see **** out the rear, and only a tad more out of the sides at night. Not good!

So far I've been quoted $425-$500 for removing my old tint and whacking on some 35% stuff. This seems way, way too much for what is basically semi-opaque film and a few hours labour.

Does anyone know places in perth that are less price extortion then this?? It's got to be quality work though

to give you an idea on my vr6 i paid $300 to strip the old tint and put a new tint on.

cant help you with somewhere in perth thats not expensive though. Do you have the big chains over there? like tintacar? or tint professor?

Yep Tintacar are here, Solace, Instant Window tinting, SunGuard, etc. No tint professor though.

Tintacar wanted 450, Solace was asking 425. I'd settle for 300 if I could find that, or even 350ish.

Solartint did mine including removing old tint for under $250, but that was a special deal. Eitherway, it should be possible to find something cheaper than $450.

If it has an engine or heartbeat it's going to cost you.

Ive rung a few more places and the lowest I've gotten is $395, so I've made a booking for next week. That's with some crazy black metallic film called "Endurance" which is 38%.

If some perth dubbers can suggest a better joint tho, I'm happy to cancel and go there instead.

Damn these tinters are pricey X_x

Can tinting be removed from rear windows with inbuilt antenna's WITHOUT stuffing the antenna?

              Great tinting WA

              Hey MattyT,

did you get yours done with sungard- osbourne park? i just got mine done there and they do great work- they were doing a couple of brand new hondas there today. i understand they also used to do the work for other dealers in the area.

i ended up with a package job- rust protection, paint protection, fabric protection, window tint (endurance) for $600. my friend arranged a deal for me and i felt bad pulling out of it.. tinting alone would probably be around 400+ anyway... but they do good work.

                Whoa, these prices are massive!!

My mate's brother had his s15 sylvia's windows done (illegal shade!), already having tint on there. Some bloke from a company came out to him, took off his tinting, put this new stuff on, and left with only $220 from my mate's brother. As I asked him about it, he said mine would be around $270 for the same thing..Tell the tint guys up there how much difference there is in price! That's an outrage!

It sure is. If I ever get tint again it'll be from a mobile guy. Have read a few forums where they seem to be a good whack cheaper then going to a workshop.

I got mine done at SunGuard Beechboro. $600 for all that is pretty darn good!

My tint looks pretty schmiko now, theres two small bubbles on one of the rear 3/4 windows so will have to get that sorted. Other wise tho I can FINALLY see out of the car at night and reversing is no longer a lottery. w00t!

For all you guys that get tint installed by a mobile guy - how do you keep the dust off during the install?

I've only got my driveway under a huge gum tree surrounded by heaps of other trees. I'm not confident the mobile guy could keep the glass and tint dust free... The light would be crap too with shading...etc.

I'm looking for somewhere near Hornsby but will travel for a good job.

My vehicle is a T5 van with windows all round. I want to get my "cargo bay" and tail gate done 35%. Happy to leave the cab with the factory tinted glass.
